Doris Evans MacDowell - Class of 1944

    Doris E. MacDowell, of Newburgh, NY entered into rest peacefully on Sunday, January 26, 2025. She was 98 years old.

She was born in Newburgh on November 19, 1926, to the late Oliver and AnnaMae (Mitchell) Evans.

Doris was a retired clerk and devoted employee with Thomas O. Miller & Company, Inc., Marlboro, NY for over 50 years.

Doris was strongly engaged in her faith and was a former member of The Church of the Good Shepard in Newburgh, where she was very active in the office, sat on many committees, and sang in the choir. She was also active working for the Diocese of New York. Most recently, Doris was a member of St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Walden.

As a lifelong Newburgh resident, she was active in many volunteer organizations to help enrich the community. Doris spent her time volunteering in the soup kitchens, as well as Loaves and Fishes. She also gave of her time to the Historical Society of Newburgh, Habitat for Humanity, and was a former member of the Architectural Review Board for the City of Newburgh.

Survivors include a daughter, RuthEllen Countryman of Pleasant Valley; a sister, Barbara Pelli of Winter Garden, FL; a sister-in-law, Betty Evans of Newburgh; a granddaughter, Ellen Castro and her husband Justin of Pleasant Valley; a great granddaughter, Elizabeth Casey of Pleasant Valley; and many loved nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Doris was predeceased by her husband, the Honorable Albert S. MacDowell in 2010; a brother, Jack Evans; a sister, Dorothy Tucker; and a sister Shirley Petro.

A Mass celebrating Doris' life will be held on Thursday, January 30, 2025, at 11:00 am at St. Andrew Episcopal Church, 15 Walnut Street, Walden 12586.
The burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery, New Windsor. In lieu of flowers, donations in Doris's memory can be made to Habitat for Humanity at www.habitat.org.
