Warren Rydell - Class of 1965

Warren Gerald Rydell was born on September 1, 1946, in Newburgh, NY, in the
Hudson Valley. He is the son of Warren Harry Rydell (deceased) and Dorothy Velma
Rydell (NY) (deceased). He is one of four brothers, David (FL), Gordon (NY), and
Jack (deceased). He has a niece Cheri Marvin (NY) 2 Nephews Michael Rydell and
Jamie Nerenberg (NY). He is predecessors by his wife Cathi Rydell.
As a
child, Warren spent much of his time fishing in the many lakes and hiking in
local mountain trails. He graduated from the Newburgh Free Academy in 1965 and
was drafted into the US Army in July 1966. He served his overseas tour of duty
in South Korea as a weapons specialist. Warren was discharged in 1968 and
returned home to Newburgh.
He decided to go into the computer field, so
he entered a two-year computer programming class offered by IBM in Poughkeepsie,
NY. He was trained in COBOL, PL/1, Fortran, and JCL. After graduating in 1970,
he moved to NJ and took a position at Bell Lab in Madison, NJ, as operations
supervisor of the mainframe computing centers.
In 1978, Warren relocated
to Dale City, VA, and took a position as a computer specialist at Boeing
Computing Services in Northern Virginia. He worked there until 1991 and then
took a position at the Department of Treasury as a computer security specialist.
After 23 years of service, Warren retired from the Department of Treasury.
On October 11, 1986, Warren married Cathi McAlexander, and Cathi relocated
from Maryland to Dale City. During their first 10 years of marriage, Warren and
Cathi had a beach house with several friends at Dewey Beach, Delaware. Warren
and Cathi would often say that Dewey Beach was a way of life and sport t-shirts
with that message. Warren and Cathi enjoyed traveling and taking annual cruises.
They especially enjoyed going to the national parks such as Grand Canyon, Zion,
and Bryce Canyon. Warren was an avid skier, enjoyed playing tennis, and
riding his motorcycle.
Warren and Cathi joined LCOC in 2001. Warren was
active in the men’s prayer breakfast and various church activities.
A graveside service will be held at Woodlawn Cemetery on Saturday, April 12
at 11:30 AM. In lieu of flowers please donate to your charity of your choice in
