Louis Pelella - Class of 1946 Submitted by Fran Olson Gustafson 1965 <fgustafson917@gmail.com> on 03/May/2025 71.223.144.36

Louis Francis Anthony Pelella, a lifelong resident of Newburgh, New York, passed away peacefully on May 2, 2025, at the age of 97. Born on December 2, 1927, at the old St. Luke's Hospital, he was the son of Theresa Pizarro and Crispino Pelella.
Lou was devoted to his hometown, having spent his entire life on the same street in Newburgh, a point of pride he carried with him always. He shared more than 58 wonderful years of marriage with the love of his life, June Dolores Smith Pelella, who predeceased him in 2008. Together they raised four children: Dana (deceased), Kerry (deceased), Shawn, and Lance.

A proud U.S. Army veteran, Lou served his country while stationed in Japan. He lived a rich and varied life, working in many trades as a television repairman, railroad worker, employee in several local pocketbook factories, and ultimately enjoying a 38-year career at IBM before retiring. Lou was the kind of man who could fix almost anything, always ready to lend a helping hand.

Community and service were central to Lou's life. He and June gave generously of their time as volunteers with the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, and at Castle Point V.A. hospital. A devout Catholic, he was a proud member of the Catholic War Veterans and a lifelong parishioner of St. Patrick's and St. Mary's Churches.

Lou is survived by his beloved grandchildren: Sarah, Michael, Rasha, Lyla, Dina, Frankie, Francesa, and Giovanna; and his cherished great-grandchildren: Amira, Matthew, Zakariya, and Maryam.

To know Lou was to love him. With a deep passion for movies, a quick wit, and a heart full of humor, he brought joy to all who crossed his path. His was a life well-liveded
and full of resilience, laughter, and love. He leaves behind a legacy of strength and warmth, and he will be forever missed.

A visitation will be at Brooks Funeral Home on Tuesday, May 6 from 4 ~ 7 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Wednesday, May 7, at St. Patrick's Church at 10 AM. Interment will follow at Orange County Veteran's Cemetery.
