Marion N. DuBois, 87, of New Paltz, died Monday, July 7, 2025 at Woodland Pond at New Paltz.
Born in Newburgh, she was the daughter of the late Walter Clement & Gertrude Kilgore Dayton.
Marion graduated from Newburgh Free Academy High School, then in later years received her BA in Communications from SUNY New Paltz. Marion lived a long and full life with multiple occupations and hobbies. In her younger years she found joy in the study of modern dance and did many performances with a variety of dance groups in and around New York City. Her sense of adventure and curiosity about other cultures lead her on trips all over the world. She followed her passion for travel to work as a travel agent for both corporate and leisure travel agencies. Marion was an early proponent of organic gardening and continued to work for environmental causes throughout her life, including being a founding member of the Sloop Clearwater. Her love of animals, domestic and wild, compelled her to run and get elected to the New Paltz Town Board. She worked to protect wetlands and was instrumental in establishing the Ulster County Dog Park.
Marion will be remembered for being a lifelong learner including scuba diving, kayaking, knitting, Flamenco dance, stage acting, and the French language which she studied up until the last year of her life. In her later years, Marion loved spending time with her many friends and cherished her time with all of her ever-growing family.
Marion is survived by her three children, Elaine DuBois of Arcata, CA, Thomas DuBois and his wife Ann of Wallkill and Caron DuBois and her husband, Mark Schneider of Pleasantville, plus eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Marion was predeceased by her husband of 63 years Thomas DuBois, a son, Matthew DuBois and a son-in-law, Phillip Crandall.
Funeral Service and Interment will be privately held.
Suggested memorial donations can be made in Marion's name to The Catskill Animal Sanctuary.
Copeland-Hammerl Funeral Home is honored to assist the family of Marion with the arrangements.
