Charles D. Garrison Sr. "Pete", 92, passed away peacefully at home, right where he loved to be with his family on July 12, 2025 in Newburgh NY, the city where he was born and spent his entire life.

Born on November 5, 1932 to Robert Garrison and Phoebe "Ruth" (McClain) Garrison, he was a proud graduate of Newburgh Free Academy, class of 1950.

Pete joined the US Navy in November of 1951 as a Radio Operator on the USS Braine and the USS Strickland. Upon receiving an honorary discharge, he made a career with IBM in East Fishkill for 36 years, retiring in 1992. He then worked part-time at the Newburgh Auto auction until he was 80 years old. Now fully retired, he needed to keep
himself busy, so you would always see him outside putzing around doing little projects, whether it was painting, laying stonework, or pulling weeds....he loved being outside in the 100 degree weather.

As a young man he played the trumpet and belonged to The Envoys Drum and Bugle Corps and to The Queen City which is where he met the love of his life, Alma. Together they shared a loving, beautiful marriage of 68 years. His family was everything to him. He was an avid bowler - and taught all of his children how to bowl, spending every Saturday
morning at Tarsio Lanes in the junior bowling leagues. He also started golfing at the Newburgh Country Club with his kids. He also spent a lot of his time golfing at various locations with his brother George, and played both sports well into his 80's! Sunday afternoons were a must,
where it became tradition that Mom cooked for the whole family - that's what made Dad happy..... when everyone was together.

He was a quiet, kind, generous man who never asked anything from anyone, but was always there to give whatever he could, especially to his children and grandchildren. HIs greatest joy was just being home with his family.

He is survived by his wife Alma (VanVoorhis) Garrison at home: 5 children: Charles Garrison Jr (Donna), Frank Garrison (Debby), Charice Alberti, George Garrison (Liz), Alma Greco (Guy). Eight grandchildren: CJ Garrison, Douglas Garrison, Trooper Arianna Hoey(Rob), Courtney Garrison, Lt. Col. Brian Nickerson (Danielle), Justin Nickerson (Gelsey), Marc Alberti, Jr., Ron Jones. Seven great-grandchildren: Ava, Alexander and Abigail Nickerson, Kylie and Blake Garrison, Logan and Leila Hoey. Pete is also survived by his sisters-in-law: Mildred Garrison, Joyce VanTilburgh, Carol Lewis, and June Embler (Gary). He was predeceased by his parents, his brothers George and Robert, and his sisters Betty, Ethel and Barbara.

Friends may call on Wednesday, July 16, 2025 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Brooks Funeral Home, 481 Gidney Avenue, Newburgh, NY. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 17, 2025 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in New Windsor NY.
