Mary Ellen Cariffe Maul - Class of 1975

Mary Ellen (Cariffe) Maul (68), passed away in Denver, Colorado, on July 24, 2025, after a long illness.
She was born in Newburgh, New York to Marion (Myrnie) and Robert (Bob) Cariffe and graduated from Newburgh Free Academy in 1975. After high school, she enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and was stationed at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs. She was trained to serve as a respiratory therapist and developed a lifelong love of healthcare and medicine. For many years, she worked as a respiratory therapist at hospitals in the Denver area.
She was preceded in death by her father and brother Robert (Bobby) Cariffe and her beloved husband, Robert (Edwin) Maul, DDS. She is survived by a son, Dr. Zachary Hillman, of Lapeer, Michigan, her mother Marion Cariffe of Apex, North Carolina, and brothers Christopher of Plantation, Florida, and Joseph of Apex, North Carolina.
She loved the outdoors and enjoyed cross-country skiing and hiking in the majestic mountains of Colorado. She also loved having her German Schnauzer dogs at her side. She'll be sadly missed and remembered for her sense of humor and cheerfulness.
