 Edward William "Mason" Smith, age 62, passed away on Friday, July 18, 2025, surrounded by his loving daughters. Mason was born on December 27, 1962, in Newburgh, New York, to the late Edward Warren Smith and Sarah Lou Smith.
Mason was a man of presence, warm, outspoken, and full of life. He spent his career as a dedicated truck driver, proud of the work he did and the independence it gave him. Life on the road suited him well, but it was the people he met and the stories he shared along the way that brought him the most joy.
He was deeply rooted in his faith and service to others. As a longtime member of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church and a committed volunteer with Wreaths Across America, Mason valued honor, community, and tradition. He carried those values into everything he did.
Those who knew Mason will remember him for his strength, his energy, and the way he showed up for the people he loved. His loyal companion, Gizmo, was always close by and a cold Diet Coke was never far from reach.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by cherished loved ones who now welcome him home.
Mason is survived by his daughters, Acadia Smith, Jessica Smith, and Chloe Smith; his beloved dog Gizmo; his sisters, Sharon Muller and Sandra King; and many extended family members and friends whose lives were made brighter by knowing him.
A memorial service to honor Mason's life will be held on Saturday, August 9, 2025, at 4:00 PM at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church in Raleigh, North Carolina. A BBQ repass will follow immediately after the service. All who knew and loved him are invited to attend.
