Roslyn Massell Shulman - Class of 1932

  Roslyn Shulman, 93, passed away on October 11, 2007. She was born on May 23, 1914 in Brooklyn,NY to the late Dr. S. Alfred Massell and Nellie Frank. As a teenager she moved to Newburgh, NY. and graduated from Newburgh Free Academy. Roslyn went on to become a dental assistant. After her marriage to Harris Shulman on June 7, 1935, she moved to Poughkeepsie. Harris predeceased her in November 1996. Roslyn worked as a bookkeeper for her husband's service station and vending machine businesses. Roslyn is survived by her 2 daughters; Carol Slesar of South Burlington,VT. and Gail Buckle of Hopewell Jct.; son in law, Richard Buckle; sister in law, Grace Massell; four grandchildren, Suzanne Slesar(John Sudarsky), Eric Slesar(Wendy Simmons), Lara Slesar(Shawn Doyle) and David White. Roslyn was also blessed with six great grandchildren; Jayce, Harris, Hazel and Gibson Slesar, and Lydia and Eliot Simmons. She was predeceased by her brother, Norman Massell in 1997. Through the years Roslyn was an active member of Women's American Ort and B'nai Brith. Her passion was doing oil portraits which has become her legacy to her family. She and her husband spent their retirement years in Lake Worth,FL., and enjoyed traveling the world. For the past two years Roslyn has been a resident of the Manor at Woodside in Poughkeepsie. Graveside services will be held Sunday 11:30 am at Temple Beth El Cemetery, Route 44, Poughkeepsie. Memorial donations may be made in Roslyn's memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Pl., Memphis,TN. 38105 or to American Cancer Society, 45 Reade Pl., Poughkeepsie,NY 12601. The family will sit shiva at the home of her daughter Gail Buckle, 72 Broadway, Hopewell Jct., NY on Monday and Tuesday from 1-3pm and 7-9 pm. Arrangements have been entrusted to Schoonmaker Funeral Home, 110 Fulton Ave., Poughkeepsie.
