Frank J. Scalzo - Class of 1959

          Frank J. Scalzo, 83, passed away on October 22, 2025 at home with his family by his side. Born to Samuel and Mary (Scozzafava) Scalzo, Frank was born on November 22, 1941 in Newburgh, New York.

Frank was a Firefighter with the City of Newburgh Fire Department for 34 years, and he served in the National Guard. Frank was a loving husband, father, grand- and great-grandfather. He was an avid bowler, loved to fish and spend time gardening.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Jennie Mae Root, his three children, Frank and wife Suzanne, daughter Melissa and Alexander Bedetti, and son Anthony Scalzo and fiance Monique Turner. Frank was a devoted Grandfather to six grandchildren, Krysta and husband Mike DeCaterina, Courtney Scalzo and Brandan Calderon, Jimmy Dittbrenner and fiance Veronica McKeon, Kyle Dittbrenner and Ashley O’Dell, and Gabriella and Isabella Scalzo. He was Great-Grandfather to Quinn Calderon, as well as Gianna Dittbrenner who predeceased her Poppy. Frank is also survived by his siblings, Tom Scalzo and wife Peg, Lucille Detz, and Dolores Carleton, in addition to many nieces and nephews.

The Scalzo Family would like to thank the staff of the East Team of Hospice of Orange and Sullivan Counties for their compassion and dedication. The family also thanks Frank’s aides for their unwavering attention and great care.

Calling hours will be held on Saturday, October 25, 2025 from 2pm to 5pm, and will take place at DiDonato Funeral Home in Marlboro, New York.
Cremation is at the convenience of the family.
