Jean Marie Edge (Nana Jean) of Orange Lake, Town of Newburgh, was called home by our Heavenly Father on Thursday, October 30, 2025, at the age of 96.

Jean was the daughter of the late Augustus J. and Ruth (Howden) Millar, born on July 2, 1929, in Newburgh, NY. She graduated from Newburgh Free Academy in 1947, and one month later, on July 27, she married the love of her life, Charles “Chubby” Edge, at St. Patrick’s Church in Newburgh.

Jean was a devout Catholic and a parishioner of St. Patrick’s Church and Our Lady of the Lake Chapel. She was also a member of the Newburgh Senior Center and the Orange Lake Homeowners Association. She had a passion for flowers and gardening, having a green thumb like no other. If you had a wilting plant, give it to Nana Jean and she will save it! She also loved animals, having had many beloved pets over her lifetime, including her backyard birds and squirrels which she would feed ten times a day if she thought they were hungry. But Jean especially loved her family, and watching the younger generation grow. She would light up when the children came to visit her. She enjoyed sharing the holidays, birthday celebrations, weddings and anniversaries with all of them throughout the years, including that most famous event: The 4th of July at her house on Orange Lake.

Jean was a retired supervisor with Verizon in Poughkeepsie. Earlier in her career she worked for N.Y. Tel and Nynex in Newburgh and later in Mt. Kisco.

Jean is survived by her two daughters, Carol Lynn of the Town of Newburgh and Jeanne Meadows of Hampton, VA; nine grandchildren, Michael (Tracy) Lynn, William (Stacey) Lynn, Jr., Christopher Lynn (partner, Cristina), Ian Sparrow, Nicholas (DeAnna) Sparrow, Robert Dickinson, Ruth Edge, Richard Meadows and Daniel Meadows; six great grandchildren, Christopher, Jr., Blake, Eliana, Siena, Tyler and Charae; one great-great grandchild, Caleia, three nieces, Kathy, Melissa and Lisa, a former son-in-law, William Lynn, and a devoted and loving caregiver of the past 7 years, Manana Kligman, who is now considered a family member.

In addition to her parents, Jean was predeceased by her husband Charles Edge in 1994, a daughter, Patricia Sparrow in 2021, a sister, Kathleen Dillon, and a son-in-law, Richard Meadows, in July, 2025.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Manana Kligman, Valentina, Irina and the Hospice nurses of Orange and Sullivan Counties for their kind and compassionate care of Jean.

Visitation for family and friends will be Monday, November 3, 2025, from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at White, Venuto and Morrill Funeral and Cremation Service, 188 N. Plank Road, Newburgh, NY 12550.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am, Tuesday, November 4, 2025, at Our Lady of the Lake Chapel, 433 South Plank Road (Rt. 52) Newburgh, NY, with burial to follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery, 9W, Newburgh, NY.

Donations in Jean’s memory may be made to the Town of Newburgh Animal Shelter, 645 Gidney Avenue, Newburgh, NY 12550 and Hospice of Orange and Sullivan Counties, 800 Stony Brook Court, Newburgh, NY 12550.
