Richard L. Shaffer, 90, passed away peacefully on November 9, 2025, in Newburgh, New York, the city where he was born on June 19, 1935. Rich enjoyed a long career as a corrections officer with the New York State Corrections Department at Fishkill Correctional Facility.

Rich is lovingly remembered by his daughter Linda Shaffer; his son Richard and his wife Ellenbeth; his nephew Robert Shaffer and his wife Lori; Tracey (Shaffer) Morrissey and her husband Mark; stepsisters Rose Baylash and Sylvia Flynn; and their families.

He cherished the memory of his beloved brother Walter Shaffer; his mother, Gertrude (Vradenburg) Greenberg; his stepfather, Samuel Greenberg; his father, Frederick Shaffer and stepbrother David Greenberg.

A devoted father and family man, Rich was known for his loyalty and kindness, with a quiet sense of humor and a soft spot for animals, especially deer.

A lifelong sports enthusiast, Rich was an avid fan of baseball and football, enjoying both the excitement of the game and the conversations around them. He also loved cars; he appreciated the details in the way they were built to how they looked and handled.

Rich leaves behind a legacy of warmth, dedication, and generosity.

May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him and continue to inspire kindness in others. June 19, 1935 ~ November 9, 2025
