It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Shawn Patrick Piper at Westchester Medical Center on January 24, 2026.

Shawn was born on May 6, 1985. He was the beloved son of Charles M. Piper Jr. and Lynda (DeCerbo) Piper. Shawn was a graduate of Newburgh Free Academy. He attended SUNY Orange and the University of Buffalo. He earned a degree as a Medical Assistant from Ridley Lowell Business and Technical Institute. Shawn worked at Cornerstone Family Healthcare where he was known for his sense of humor, kindheartedness, dedication, and medical expertise.

Shawn lit up any room he walked into. No matter the occasion, you could always count on him to make you laugh with his stories. He will always be remembered for his charisma. He was one of a kind.

Shawn was a brilliant individual who astounded all with his medical knowledge and was well respected. He was a person who would help anyone in need. A great example of this is his decision to be an organ donor in which he will save many lives.

Shawn is survived by his heartbroken parents Charles and Lynda Piper, his loving sister Ashley (Piper) Lewis, his brother-in-law Matthew Lewis, his beloved long time partner Ashley Harley, and his treasured cats, Pootie and Thomas.

He is also survived by his Aunt Donna (DeCerbo) Bilyou and his Uncle John Bilyou, his Aunt Cathy (Piper) Marchione, his Aunt and Uncle Charlotte (Piper) DiPaola and Paul DiPaola, and cousins Marc Bilyou (Christine), Christine Weeks (Tom), Stacey Brown (Joe), Kelly Bayer (Jonathan), James Petroski, Elizabeth Marsh, and Cathy Petroski.

He was predeceased by his grandparents Salvatore and Mary DeCerbo and Charles and Charlotte Piper and by his Aunts Mary Ann Petroski, Merlyn Brown, and Diane Piper-Rader.

We would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Avi Silber and the staff at Cornerstone Family Healthcare, the staff of Westchester Medical Center, PA Thanh ho. Nguyen, and LiveOnNY for their exceptional compassionate care for Shawn.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Breakthrough T1D (previously the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation).

Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 29th from 4-8 PM at Brooks Funeral Home, 481 Gidney Avenue, Newburgh, NY. A funeral mass will be held on Friday, January 30th at 10 AM at Sacred Heart Church, 301 Ann Street, Newburgh, NY. - May 6, 1985 ~ January 24, 2026
