Walter Walker - Class of 1965

    Walter R. Walker, a current resident of Hopewell Junction and formerly of Newburgh, New York, passed away on January 23, 2026. He was 79 years old.

Born on July 25, 1946 in Newburgh, NY, Walter was the beloved son of the late Benjamin Walker and the late Louvinia Jinkins. He was a high school graduate who went on to serve our country in the United States Air Force from 1965 to 1969. On August 21, 1971, Walter married the love of his life, Felicia DeJesus. He retired from the Downstate Correctional Facility and then worked for Royco Auto Parts. In his free time, Walter, an avid jogger, enjoyed ping pong, horseback riding, cycling, bowling, weight lifting, martial arts, and especially singing. He was a talented vocalist from a family of gifted singers.

He was also a dedicated volunteer to the Neighborhood Service Organization and its successor the Beacon Community Center. Donating his time to the Center for over 30 years as a mentor, role model, and all around helper. Walter still managed to find time to take Spanish and American Sign Language classes and complete an Airline Customer Service Representative Course.

Walter was known for his caring and kindness to family, friends and the community.

Walter is survived by his wife Felicia who resides at home, his daughter Leslie Walker, his granddaughter Yasmin Galloway and his great grandchildren Winter Donaldson and Amari VanLierop, sister Lilline Powell and brother-in-law Benjamin Powell, Godson Zeno Baez, his sister-in-law Marcia Ballard and her husband Walter Ballard, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and adjacent family members.

Walter is predeceased by his brother Eugene Walker, He is also predeceased by his sisters, Leatrice Fryar, Anna Mae Wheeler, Theatrice Baker and Gay B. Walker.

Family and friends will gather on February 24, 2026 from 11 a.m.to 3 p.m. at Riverview Funeral Home by Halvey, 2 Beekman Street, Beacon. A Funeral Service will be held at the Funeral Home on February 24 at 2 p.m. The Reverend Ted Miller will conduct the service.
