Albert Rhodes - Class of 1944

    Albert L Rhodes, of the town of Marlboro, entered into rest on February 3rd 2026 in Belford, NJ. He was 99 years young. Son of the late Raymond D & Viola A Peters Rhodes, he was born on March 10, 1926 in the town of Newburgh, NY.

Albert was a Supervisor and worked at Central Hudson Gas & Electric, in Newburgh. A graduate of Newburgh Free Academy, he proudly served his country with the US Army during World War II. He was with General Clark's Fifth US Army, 178th Field Artillery Battalion. Albert served from July 1944 until July 1946 in the Italian campaign, where his division pushed across northern Italy, when German forces surrendered on May 22, 1945, two days after the collapse of Berlin. He was a member of the American Legion and the Order of Elks and Moose. In addition, he was a member of the United Slow Pitch Softball Association and St. Francis church in Newburgh.

Survivors include Jane, his beloved wife of 77 years, Gary Rhodes and Melinda Rhodes, residing in Leonardo, NJ, Janice and Dr Lloyd Moriber residing in Bal Harbour, FL, grandchildren Britney Rhodes Mahoney residing in Summerville, SC, and Ryan Rhodes residing in West Hempstead, NY. He is also survived by his great grandchildren, Jack, Patrick, Thomas and Charley Mahoney, and Emilia Rhodes. The family would also like to thank his faithful caregiver, Pauline Hepburn, for her love and support.

Albert will be remembered most for the time he cherished with his loving family who were the heart and center of his life. A lifelong athlete and sports enthusiast he embraced sports in all forms whether it was playing or watching. He shared a beautiful partnership of 77 years with his beloved wife Jane. From the moment they met, ballroom dancing became a constant in their lives together. He leaves behind a legacy of love, warmth and shared moments that will be deeply missed and forever treasured by all who knew him.

The family would like to thank his dedicated, caring and loving caregiver, Pauline Hepburn.

There will be a private, family only service on Friday, February 6th 2026 at DiDonato Funeral Home in Marlboro, NY
