Submitted by Fran Olson Gustafson 1965 <fgustafson917@gmail.com> on 17/Feb/2026 71.223.130.53

Arlene Ruth Winslow, 81,
of Woodstock, GA formerly Cornwall, NY, passed away on Jan. 20, 2026, after a brief hospitalization in Canton, Ga. Born Nov. 22, 1944, to missionary parents, she spent her earliest years in Maharashtra, India. Returning from the field with her family when she was four, she was raised in Washingtonville, New York, and spent much of her life in Cornwall. Recently, she made her home in Woodstock, GA.
Arlene was a dedicated High School Social Studies Teacher, retiring from Newburgh Free Academy in 2011. She would arrive to school early for things like "See You at the Pole" and worked late to help students on such things as musical productions, including Singin' in the Rain. Earlier in her career she taught history, science and Bible at Leptondale Christian Academy in Newburgh. She was passionate about both world and U.S. history, and lived out the privileges of a free society by often reaching out to government representatives on behalf of causes she believed in. She cooked and gardened and always kept a beautiful home. Her greatest joy was her family, and she was a faithful daughter and sister, and a loving wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her commitment to prayer and Bible reading was a daily discipline, and her prayers on behalf of her family and everyone she knew are perhaps her greatest legacy.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years Darryl Winslow; daughter Becky Melvin and her husband Dan; son Brad Winslow and his wife Reaksmey; daughter Carrie Baker and her husband Jon; sister Nancy Belcher and her husband Del; grandchildren Margaret (Melvin) Roop, Tim Melvin, Abby Melvin, Andrew Melvin, Ainsley Baker, Reagan Baker and Harry Baker; great grandchildren Eleanor and Hudson Roop; and nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents Stephen Garrison, Marjorie Garrison Farrell, stepfather Frank Farrell, and her sister Janet Garrison.
Her funeral and celebration of life will be held on February 21st at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Rock Tavern, N.Y. at 10:30 a.m., followed by a burial service at Oak Hill Cemetery in Nyack, NY. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Arthritis Foundation or Samaritan's Purse in Arlene's memory.
"Śwe have an advocate with the Father“ Jesus Christ, the Righteous One. He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world." 1 John 2:1-2
