Submitted by Fran Olson Gustafson 1965 <fgustafson917@gmail.com> on 11/Mar/2026 97.124.235.251

Elizabeth A. Mastrota Glynn, "Betty" passed away peacefully after a short illness. Betty was born on August 24, 1937 in St. Luke's Hospital, Newburgh, NY. She was raised in Newburgh, and had many happy memories of growing up with her family and friends, especially her dear cousin Lorraine Santacroce - with whom she was always getting into mischief, and their friend, Jerry Orsino. The three of them had a friendship that endured for over eighty years. Mom was a devoted army football fan. She couldn't wait for the season's schedule to come out. In later years, even Mom's beloved weekly Army football game would have to wait if Father Jerry called that Saturday afternoon to chat with his old friend, Betty Ann.
Betty attended Newburgh schools, including St. Mary's Parochial School, South High, and Newburgh Free Academy. She also attended Spencerian Business School.
On April 24, 1960, Elizabeth Mastrota wed Donald G. Glynn in the original Sacred Heart Church.
Betty's parents - Frank and Marian Mastrota- lived up the street from where Betty raised her family. The backyard pathway that connected their homes made it easy for her kids to visit their grandparents often - and their neighbors didn't mind the backyard traffic. Betty was active in her children's school days - volunteering to chaperone class trips or working on the holiday bazaar which included making many arts and crafts to sell there. She always drove the car to transport her kids to their football and tennis games, summer camp and play dates.
Betty worked in Grant's on Water Street, Kreissel Furniture on Broadway, and Tarkett in Vails Gate.
Betty was an avid reader! She was never without a book by her side. When they were kids, she always took her children to the Newburgh Free Library every 3 weeks to stock up on library books. After successful cataract surgeries done in the last few years, she had a renewed love of reading. In addition, Betty enjoyed bowling, ceramics, baking and golf. She played in golf leagues with Don and their friends as members of Storm King Golf Club. Betty also had a green thumb. Her home had many plants throughout, and she loved gardening outside. She also loved to hang her family's laundry outside on the clotheslines in the fresh air rather than using a clothes dryer.
She was predeceased by her loving parents, Frank and Marian Mastrota, her husband Donald, and her daughter-in-law, Cheryl..
She is survived by her son Donald Glynn, Jr., of Hurst, Texas, her daughter - with whom she resided in the last years of her life - Beth Glynn, of New Windsor, NY, and her son Michael Glynn, of Newburgh, NY.; 2 granddaughters - Dominique Lea (Zachary,) and Devon Young (Keith); 5 great grandchildren - Hunter, Hayden, Harper, Jett and Davis; and her cherished furbaby Gracie, who followed her wherever she went, and always reminded her at 7:30 pm that it was time to head to bed now that Jeopardy was over.
She is also survived by her 2 sisters - Virginia Petrucci of Norwalk, CT, and Joan Mastrota of Middletown, NY; special nephews Chris and David Petrucci, who would drive their mother to visit Aunt Betty whenever they could when she could no longer travel, and Jack Glynn, who always would call his Aunt Betty to check up on her well-being. She so appreciated being remembered and loved getting your phone calls, Jack. Thank you!
She is also survived by several cousins, nieces, and nephews. She is grateful for the friendship and care shown to her by her friends Adair and Selenna Santoro, Jackie and Lucy Relyea (and Finn, too,) and Suzanne Fornal. Betty looked forward to spending time with all of you. Thank you so much for your calls, visits, and dinners.
Betty and her family are so grateful for the care she was given by all of her medical team, but especially Dr. Perla Andin, Dr. Stephen Lazar, and his nurse Sharita, and the staffs of Garnet Medical Center and the Kaplan Family Hospice Residence. Betty loved you all very much, and was so appreciative of the care you gave to her.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, the Kaplan Family Hospice Residence, Saint Mother Teresa of Calcutta Parish of Newburgh, or the Hudson Valley SPCA.
Visitation will be held from 4-7 pm on Thursday, March 12 at Brooks Funeral Home, 481 Gidney Ave., Newburgh. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am on Friday, March 13 at Saint Mother Teresa of Calcutta Parish, Newburgh, with burial following in Calvary Cemetery, New Windsor.
