Louis Joseph Gizzarelli Jr., “Lou,” 61, of Newburgh, NY, passed away on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, at his home surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with cancer. Throughout his illness, Lou faced each day with remarkable strength and grace, continuing to live his life fully and on his own terms — an inspiration to everyone who knew him.

Lou was born on April 2, 1964, in Newburgh, NY. He was a graduate of Newburgh Free Academy and went on to attend SUNY Oneonta, where he earned his degree. Lou became a Certified Public Accountant and, with determination and an entrepreneurial spirit, founded his own firm, Louis J. Gizzarelli, CPA, PC, building a practice rooted in hard work and the trust of his clients.

Outside of work, Lou lived a full life. He was an avid baseball fan, a dedicated hunter and fisherman, and a passionate gardener. He took great pride in making his own wine. What made all of these pursuits meaningful was the company he kept — Lou cherished sharing them with his many friends and his loving family. Nothing brought him more joy than time spent with his grandchildren, who lovingly called him "Nonno." He was a devoted member of Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Newburgh.

Lou was predeceased by his father, Louis J. Gizzarelli Sr.; his stepfather, Bob Mackey; and his father-in-law, John Etri.

Lou is survived by his beloved wife, LoriBeth Gizzarelli (Etri); his daughter, Lia Basso, and her husband, Christopher, and their two children, Lily and Lainey; his son, LJ Gizzarelli, and his wife, Alyssa, and their children, Everly, LJ, and Gemma; his mother, Isabella Gizzarelli-Mackey; his mother-in-law, Lila Etri; his brothers, Joseph Gizzarelli and his wife, Nadeen, and Michael Gizzarelli and his wife, Kim; his sisters, Lori Rudy and her husband, Dave, Margaret Bayer, and Donna Guillet and her husband, Brian; his brothers-in-law, Brian Swee and his wife, Lisa, John Etri, and Dan Maughan; his many beloved nieces and nephews, whom he loved dearly; and many cousins, extended family, and dear friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Colorectal Cancer Alliance at colorectalcancer.org or to the Town of Newburgh Little League.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, March 22nd from 2:00pm-6:00pm at Brooks Funeral Home located at 481 Gidney Avenue, Newburgh, NY 12550.
