Submitted by Fran Olson Gustafson 1965 <fgustafson917@gmail.com> on 06/Apr/2026 71.223.158.23

Edward J. (Ed) Mucci of Modena, NY passed away peacefully April 5th, 2026. He
was 74.
A lifelong resident of the Hudson Valley, Ed was born to John and
Antoinette Mucci in Newburgh, NY. After graduating from Newburgh Free Academy,
Ed earned a bachelor's degree in teaching from Mount Saint Mary College. An avid
fan of history with an encyclopedic memory, Ed began teaching history at Temple
Hill Academy. He later held a position as a program specialist, a stepping-stone
into school administration. After earning a Master of Science in School
Administration from SUNY New Paltz, Ed would hold principalships in the Newburgh
Enlarged City School District for the remaining two decades of his accomplished
and impactful career, culminating in the dedication of the auditorium at South
Middle School in his name.
After retiring, Ed spent his time pursuing
his hobbies and spending time with family and friends. He was an enthusiastic
reader of fact and fiction, always up to date on current events and able to
recommend an entertaining read. Ed loved music and would fill his home, his car
and his company with the melodies that moved him. He enjoyed hunting and fishing
and the camaraderie that came along with them. He was a fan of classic film,
particularly the Golden Age of Hollywood and the Westerns of John Wayne; he
would excitedly recount the plot of his favorites when they were scheduled to
show that day.
Ed’s greatest passion was cooking. An enthusiastic and
talented chef, he was excited to share his food and his company with those close
to him. From the simple to elaborate, he was happy to make any meal that would
bring someone joy. There was always enough food and enough room at his table for
anyone who asked. Complimenting his food, Ed possessed a large personality and
could command a conversation with his stories, often embellishing his tales and
jokes with details, sounds and physical expressions that would make them
memorable long into the future.
Ed leaves behind a loving family and many
friends. His greatest happiness was his family, and he loved nothing more than
the time spent with them. He is survived by his wife Joyce, his son John and
wife Katelyn and sons Cullen and Milo, his son James and wife Megan, his son
Joseph and wife Kelsey and daughter Daisy, many cousins, nieces, nephews and
in-laws. He is predeceased by his father, mother and sister Vivian.
