Marie Grieco Woolsey - Class of 1951

Marie G. Woolsey (nee Grieco), 92, passed away peacefully on April 29, 2026, at her home in Walden, New York surrounded by family. Born on May 13, 1933, in Newburgh, New York, she lived a life of dedication to her family, faith, and community.
Marie had a remarkable career in the publishing industry. She worked as a typesetter for The Newburgh Evening News, a proofreader for Cornwall Press, and a columnist for The Stewart Citizen. Her contributions to these publications reflected her keen eye for detail and her passion for the written word.
A devout Catholic, Marie's faith was central to her life and guided her actions. She was deeply committed to serving others and spent over three decades volunteering at Montefiore St. Luke's Cornwall Hospital. Her dedication extended to her community through her involvement as a Life Member of the Dan Leghorn Fire Engine Co. #1 Ladies Auxiliary and the Orange County Volunteer Fireman's Association Ladies Auxiliary. Additionally, she contributed to Meals on Wheels of the Town of Newburgh, ensuring that those in need were cared for with compassion.
Marie cherished her role as a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She is survived by her daughter Dreena Pross (husband Curt), son George Woolsey Jr. (wife Carrie), daughter Toni Crisci (husband Greg), grandchildren Nicole Mariani, Anthony Mariani (wife Jessica), Ryan Mariani (wife Rebecca), Daniel Crisci, Georgiana Crisci, her beloved great-grandchildren Daniel and Victoria Brink; Lorelei, Macsen, Evelyn, Elaina, Hannah, and Liam Mariani; as well as several close and dear friends who enriched her life especially Msgr. John Budwick, Fr. Willam Scafidi, and Fr. Samuel Taylor.
She was predeceased by her parents Anthony and Jean Grieco (nee Marino) and her husband George Woolsey Sr., with whom she shared 61 cherished years.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Montefiore St. Luke's Cornwall Hospital—especially the Emergency Department staff and the teams of 2 North and 3 North—for their exceptional care. Special thanks are also given to Hospice of Orange and Sullivan Counties, particularly Celeste, Mary, and Kathleen, for their unwavering support during this time.
Marie's legacy is one of love, service, and devotion. Her memory will forever be treasured by those who knew her. May she rest in eternal peace.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 3, 2026, from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Brooks Funeral Home 481 Gidney Ave. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, May 4, 2026, beginning at 10:00 AM at Our Lady of the Lake Chapel 433 S. Plank Rd. Interment will take place at Calvary Cemetery in New Windsor, NY following funeral services.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Dan Leghorn Engine Co. #1 and/or Hospice of Orange and Sullivan Counties Inc.
