Eileen McCurry Lewis, 72, passed away peacefully with her loving family by her side on Friday, May 22, 2026, at her home in Surfside Beach, South Carolina.
Born on March 2, 1954, in Newburgh, New York, she was the daughter of the late James McCurry and Ruth Jean Moore McCurry.
Eileen moved to the Myrtle Beach area in the 1970s from New York, where she soon met the love of her life, James "Jim" Lewis. The two were married in August 1979 and built a beautiful life together filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories. In 1982, they welcomed their son, JC, and lovingly raised their family in Surfside Beach, the community that became Eileen's lifelong home and held a special place in her heart.
A hardworking woman with a heart of gold, Eileen dedicated many years of service to the Town of Surfside Beach, working in the Building and Zoning Office. She was admired for her kindness, strong work ethic, and caring spirit. In 1989, Jim began construction on Eileen's dream home, where together they built not only a house, but a lifetime of treasured memories. It was there, surrounded by the love of her family, that Eileen peacefully spent her final moments at home.
After a long and dedicated career, Eileen happily retired in 2018 and embraced the years that followed, enjoying more time with family, friends, and the things she loved most.
Eileen especially enjoyed traveling to St Marteen, taking golf cart rides around the neighborhood, and spending precious time with family and friends. Above all else, her greatest joy in life was her family, whom she loved wholeheartedly. She also shared a special bond with her loving pet, Bandit, who brought her companionship and joy.
Left to cherish her precious memory are her adoring husband, James "Jim" Lewis of the home; her son, JC Lewis and his wife, Miranda, of Murrells Inlet; her beloved granddaughter and the apple of her eye, Lyla Grace; her brother, Jim McCurry of Murrells Inlet and his life partner, Jonica; her aunt, Judy Moore; her cherished pet, Bandit; as well as extended family members, supportive friends, and neighbors.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to her devoted caregivers, Ilona and Janet, for the compassionate care, kindness, and dedication shown to Eileen throughout her journey.
At the request of the family, memorial contributions may be made in Eileen's honor to the charity of one's choice in lieu of flowers.
