Sadly Mary passed away last night 6/23/2026. Mary, had Lewy Body dementia and other complications. Mary was a strong, loving and compassionate woman. Mary may be gone from us, but you will never be forgotten.

Bridget Berkery Irons, 80, a lifelong resident of Newburgh, New York, passed
away peacefully on June 23, 2026. Born on August 3, 1945, in Newburgh, New York,
Mary was the daughter of the late Theresa Cassidy and Leo Berkery. She was a
proud member of the Newburgh Free Academy Class of 1963 and treasured the
lifelong friendships she formed there, remaining in close contact with many
classmates and enjoying regular luncheon gatherings throughout the years. Mary
worked in retail before beginning a career as a medical secretary. She was a
dedicated member of the staff at Dr. Whittner’s Chiropractic Office in Newburgh,
where she worked until her retirement. Mary was preceded in death by her parents
and her beloved siblings, Leo Berkery, Jimmy Berkery, and Sheila Cox. She shared
a special bond with her brother-in-law, Howard Cox, who remained a cherished
member of her family. She is survived by her devoted husband, Richard Irons; her
loving children, Brian Matthews and his wife, Sara Matthews, Kim Matthews, and
Kelly Matthews; seven cherished grandchildren; six beloved great-grandchildren,
with a seventh joyfully expected; her lifelong best friend of 76 years, Lucille
Detz; and many loving cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family members, and
dear friends. Mary was a bright and jubilant woman whose warmth, kindness, and
generous heart touched everyone she met. She had a remarkable ability to bring
joy, laughter, and comfort to every room she entered. Her love for family and
friends, welcoming spirit, and unwavering compassion will be remembered always
by those fortunate enough to have known her. In accordance with Mary’s wishes,
no calling hours or wake will be held. A Mass of Christian Burial will be
celebrated on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi
Catholic Church, 145 Benkard Avenue, Newburgh, New York. Burial will immediately
follow at St. Francis Cemetery in New Windsor. Family and friends are invited to
gather following the burial at the American Legion Hall, 29 Walnut Street, New
Windsor, NY 12553, to celebrate Mary’s life and share memories together. In lieu
of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial donations be made to the
Deacon Jack Seymour Food Pantry of St. Francis of Assisi Church and Sacred Heart
Church in Mary’s honor.
