Casan Brathwaite died on August 10, 2011, he was born in New York City on
September 23, 1987 to Cassandra Byers-Hazlewood and Clarence Brathwaite. In his
early years Andre attended Brooklyn Temple Elementary school. After his family
relocated to Newburgh, NY, he was enrolled in the Newburgh Enlarged City School
District. Andre graduate with a Regents Diploma from Newburgh Free Academy in
2005. Following his graduation, he attended Long Island University Brooklyn
Campus where he studied Computer graphics. Andre's work experience started at
New York Presbyterian Hospital in the summer program where he worked in the
materials management department. However he really found his niche at Foot
Locker. He began as a sales clerk, and was promoted to manager within one year.
Since then he has managed several Foot Locker stores in New York and New Jersey.
Because of his stellar performance, he was recently given the responsibility of
establishing new stores in areas where there are no Foot Locker Stores. Over the
five years that Andre worked at Foot Locker, he received multiple awards and
commendations for his performance. As a youngster, Andre served as a Junior
Deacon in the Newburgh SDA Church. Those who cherish Andre's memory as well as
the hope of seeing him again include his daughter, Kyara; parents, Cassandra
Hazlewood (Fitzroy), Clarence Braithwaite (Sharmayne); one sister Amie; two
brothers, James and Alex; grandmothers Beatrice Byers and Ursula Brathwaite: two
great aunts, Sybil McKay (Donald) and Katherine Heskey; 10 uncles, 4 aunts;
scores of cousins and many other relatives, friends, and loved ones. Visitation
and services were private.
Andre Brathwaite, died when he jumped from the Newburgh-Beacon Bridge early Wednesday morning following an argument with his ex-girlfriend. State Police said Andres Brathwaite, 23, had forced his way into the woman’s Town of Lagrange home around 1 a.m. and took their three-year-old daughter with him. When police spotted him on I-84 in the Town of Fishkill, they tried to approach but he drove away and onto the bridge where he pulled over and jumped to his death, landing on the Metro-North Railroad tracks below. The child was found in the car unharmed and returned to her mother. The State Police investigation was conducted in conjunction with Fishkill Town Police, MTA Police and the Dutchess County Medical Examiner’s Office.
