Joan Reed Greene, 90 of Queensbury, NY, peacefully entered into rest on August
18, 2017 surrounded by family and friends. The daughter of the late Frances
“Frank” and Mildred (Adams) Reed, she was born on February 7, 1927 in Newburgh,
NY. Joan graduated from NFA in 1944 and married her childhood sweetheart and the
love of her life, Norman B. Greene Jr., on July 24, 1949 at St. Mary’s Church in
Newburgh. He preceded her death in 2003. Joan is survived by her daughters,
Pamela Granger and her husband, Dale of Glens Falls, and Sharon Senff and her
husband, Tom of Egg Harbor City, NJ. Her grandchildren include: Jillian Granger,
Jason and Ryan Senff and Holly (Alex) Tufescu. Her step grandchildren include:
Christopher (Susan) Granger, Brian Granger and Jennifer (Matt) Rayder. Her step
grandson, Bruce Granger predeceased her. She met her newest great-grandchild,
Brooke Tufescu in April, and leaves step great-grandchildren: Megan (Matt)
Baugh, Jeremy Jenkins, Andrew Granger, Sydney and Samantha Rayder and Quinn
Granger. Her step great great-grandchildren are Brinn and McKenna Baugh. Joan
was an accomplished pianist and accompanist. She was a Spencer’s Business School
graduate, working in the finance department at West Point. She stopped working
to raise her two beautiful daughters, and returned to work at Northern
Metropolitan Hospital Association, where she retired in 1987. Joan was a
volunteer at St. Luke’s Hospital for over fifty years, serving as President of
the Auxiliary, as well as Treasurer. She joined the Powelton Club in 1960 and
served as Secretary on the Board of Directors for fifteen years. Joan also was a
member of the Board of Directors for St. Luke’s Hospital. Most recently she was
President of the Senior Group at St. Mary’s Church in Newburgh and helped to
organize the NFA Class of ’44 Reunions. Joan loved people and was always
interested in hearing about their families and all their accomplishments. Due to
health issues, she recently had to leave her beloved Newburgh to move near her
daughter in Queensbury, NY. She was already making wonderful new friends while
keeping in touch with those she hated to leave. Visitation will be held from 4
to 7 p.m. on Thursday, August 24 at Brooks Funeral Home, 481 Gidney Ave.,
Newburgh. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Friday,
August 25 at Sacred Heart Church, 301 Ann St., Newburgh, with entombment
following in Cedar Hill Mausoleum, Newburgh. The family asks that in lieu of
flowers, donations be made in Joan’s name to the Adirondack Save A Stray,
4880NY-9N, Corinth, NY 12822 or to the Hudson Valley SPCA, 940 Little Britain
Road, New Windsor, NY 12553. To send a personal condolence, please visit
