Gordy was presented with a very special trophy.
It came with three plastic ice cream cones.
It read
"In appreciation for his dedication and hard work.
Just look for the ice cream truck and you will find Gordy."

Gordy passed away suddenly on March 9 at the age of 71. Oh my gosh! What does one say. I was in shock when Mike Muntz, president of the Saturday Night Cruisers Car Club, called me to let me know that Gordy Groff, a member, had passed away suddenly. Mike was heartbroken to say the least. I was away in South Carolina when Mike called and was so very sorry I was unable to make his services. But I said a prayer and did nothing but think about Gordy the whole time I was away.

This is the reason that God gives us memories, for times like this. I have known Gordy for about 12 years and from the day we first met we just hit it off. He had one of the best personalities and really loved to laugh and joke. But more importantly, all who knew him knew he loved his family, his 1955 Chevy and ice cream. There just had to be an ice cream truck or a stand nearby at any of the Saturday Night Cruisers show, just for Gordy. At one of the club Christmas parties, Gordy was awarded a plaque for his dedication and support to the club, appropriately affixed with three plastic ice cream cones. It read, “In appreciation for his dedication and hard work. Just look for the ice cream truck and you’ll find Gordy.”  I remember the time also, when someone in his neighborhood had backed into his beloved Chevy. He was heartbroken, but just like one of his own children, he slapped a huge band-aid across the crushed fender and showed up at the next car show. How appropriate. That was Gordy. One cannot say enough about him. His smile and his hugs will be forever in my thoughts. Saying he will be missed is an understatement. There will be a void in the club for a long time. Everyone will miss that moment when the earth started shaking when Gordy and his Chevy pulled into a show. I know I will, but come this season, I will definitely have an ice cream cone in memory of my friend. - Rest easy Gordy.  -  Donna Kessler / Times Herald Record
