O'Sullivan, Margaret "Marge" Tompkins Dillon was granted her final wish and went to be with the Lord on March 13, 2010 at the Kaplan Family Hospice Residence in Newburgh. NFA records show she graduated in 1935. She lived a full life of 92 years and was a longtime communicant of St. Mary's Church. Daughter of the late William S. O'Sullivan and Emma Weiderman O'Sullivan, she lived most of her life on Gidney Avenue. She was married in 1943 to William F. Tompkins Jr., the father of her children, who died in 1981. Her second husband, William Dillon, sister, Mary Gould and brothers, George and William O'Sullivan also predecease her. Marge is survived by her children: Patricia Favata and her former husband, Alfred Favata of Newburgh; Mary Murphy and her husband, William of Newburgh, Richard Tompkins and his wife, Sandee of Carthage, NC; Barbara Swartz and her husband, Bruce of Annapolis, MD. Additional survivors include her grandchildren: Kara Murphy-Haire and her husband, Dirk of Annapolis, MD, Sean Murphy and his wife, Mandy of Chapel Hill, NC; Buffy Maria Favata-Starbeck and her husband, Daniel of New Windsor; Savanna Swartz of Annapolis, MD; Mary Fran Barzee and her husband, Stefan Mooserugger of Durham, NC, and Suzanne Barzee of San Diego, CA; great-grandchildren: Yarrow Starbeck, Bailey Haire, Annie Allen Beard, Luna Murphy, Freja Murphy, Connor Haire, and Lucy Linh Beard; sister-in-law, Billie O'Sullivan; nieces: Barbara Hourigan, Christine Lamadrid, and Nancy Humbert; nephews: John, Robert, William and Paul Gould. Marge's best friend and her Maid of Honor, Jesse Luckacik survives her. For the last eight years, Marge made her home at the Johnes Home in Newburgh. She treasured her friends and "second family" and thoroughly enjoyed the cards, bowling and camaraderie. To her dear friends, Fran, Helen and Velma, know that Marge loved you. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the Johnes Home staff and especially to Linda, Chris and Lydia. Marge worked for many years at Central Hudson, The Bethlehem Art Gallery, and at Newburgh Free Academy Night School. During her lifetime, she volunteered for numerous organizations, most recently Meals on Wheels and the Cornwall Hospital Auxiliary. She was a wonderful cook and everyone remembers her chocolate chip cookies, pies and Sunday dinners. Marge taught by example, accepting everyone as they were and enjoying life. It is no surprise that the universal response to Mom's passing from young and old alike is, "I loved your mother." She gave love, not in gushy ways, but through her smile, her laughter, sense of humor, lack of complaints and continuous expressions of gratitude. Perhaps her greatest gift to her children was giving them the freedom to be themselves. Memorial Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m., Sunday, March 21, at the Brooks Funeral Home, 481 Gidney Ave., Newburgh. Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Monday, March 22, at St. Mary's Church, South St., Newburgh. Cremation will be in Cedar Hill Crematory and burial will be at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Kaplan Family Hospice Residence, 800 Stony Brook Ct., Newburgh, NY 12550.
