the gates of heaven welcome her with open arms. Her journey was a painful
one, with many roads of different colour, however the place in my heart can
never reveal the emptiness it has left behind...... All my love Aunt Bonnie

I loved her as the sister-in-law I thought she was going to be. She was
engaged to my brother Kevin, and during that time she was an amazing young
woman. She was happy, funny, and always ready with a helping hand and a
wonderfully open heart. I know her life took a series of twists and turns,
but none of that negates who she was inside. The young woman I remember. RIP
Bethann, RIP.

in St. Francis of Assisi Church, Newburgh, with burial following.
Joseph Lee, who retired in February as the administrative sergeant after a
22-year career with the Newburgh City Police Department, died on Sunday.
He was 44. The exact cause of death is known, but there is thought that he
suffered fatal heart attack. Police Chief Michael Ferrara said Lee worked
his way up through the ranks to the post he held when he retired just
weeks ago. “He was our computer guru. He was in charge of records
management, our computer systems; Joe did a lot for us on a daily basis
here in the police department,” the chief said. Lee was born and raised in
Newburgh. He joined the force in 1991 as a patrolman, worked his way up to
detective in 1999 and to sergeant in 2005. Visitation will be held from 4
p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 3 at Brooks Funeral Home in Newburgh. A
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Thursday, April
4 at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Newburgh.
CITY OF NEWBURGH - A popular Newburgh cop was found dead of undetermined
causes Easter morning in his home, according to police. Sgt. Joseph Lee,
44, had retired Feb. 28 after nearly 22 years policing his hometown. A
second generation police officer, Lee had rejected buyout offers in recent
years before he finally decided to leave the force. "It's a very sad day
for Newburgh police," Chief Michael Ferrara said Monday. Ferrara had
worked under Lee's father, William Lee, who was a sergeant in the 1970s.
Lee joined the force in 1991 after serving in the U.S. Navy and working as
an auto mechanic. He managed to build a reputation as a nice guy, despite
working on the contentious streets of Newburgh. "He was very good with
people, and his communications and how he handled people were excellent -
very courteous," Ferrara said. A sense of humor helped too. Oliver
Mackson, a former Times Herald-Record reporter and columnist, vividly
remembered an afternoon in 1993 when he was particularly happy to see Lee.
Mackson was reporting on a man shot to death during a card game in the
East End when parents of neighborhood kids pegged him for a creep after
their children. They ordered him at knife point not to move while they
called the cops. Lee, a young patrolman at the time, arrived shortly after
with his partner, Vincent Keller. "We got a call that a strange man was
talking to kids here," Lee said, scanning the crowd before he let his eyes
fall on Mackson. "Well, I can confirm he is a strange man, but he is a
reporter. You're going to have to let him go." Lee was promoted to
detective in 1999 and sergeant in 2005. He handled the department's
information and technology services during his final years on the force.
Outside of work, he was a lover of the Jets, Mets, rock music and happy
hour with friends. Toni Favata, assistant manager of Torches on the
Hudson, said he was like family to the restaurant's staff. "He would talk
to you about anything, from sports to working to the dirt on the ground,"
Favata said. Lee had talked in recent months about retiring, Favata said.
He was ready for a change after two decades as police officer, but it was
a tough decision leave. "He didn't want to say good bye to anyone," she
said. When he finally did, Torches hosted the retirement party. Favata
said they'll probably host a final farewell to Lee in the coming days. A
wake is scheduled for 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at Brooks Funeral Home, 481
Gidney Ave. Funeral services will begin at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Francis
of Assisi Church, 145 Benkard Ave.

Mrs. McElroy: I went to high school with Bruce, we had a few classes
together. I would like to extend my deepest and belated sympathies. Bruce
was a kind person and lots of fun to be around.

Dear Camille - I knew Bruce from before kindergarten, through St. Francis
and all the way to NFA. We had a special bond - both our Grandmothers were
named Dorothy Alexander, and both had a sister named Nicole. I remember
playing with him when we were both boys, and I recall seeing him steal his
first kiss in the fifth grade (Debra Miller). I also remember being rocked
to my core when I heard he passed away all those years ago. I was 20, and
he was the first person I knew of our generation to pass away. I wasn't
close to him in the last few years of his life, and I always regretted not
having a chance to send my regrets at the time. My much-belated
condolences to you & your family. Bruce was a hell of a guy.

Wildermann, Paul Joseph Sr., age 46, of West Scranton died unexpectedly

Champury Wildermann. He and his family moved to Newburgh, N.Y., and he was
a graduate of Newburgh Free Academy High School. He received his Bachelor
of Science degree from Dominican College and his master's degree in social
work from Marywood University. Paul's career began with his teaching high
school history in schools of Newburgh, N.Y. He relocated to Scranton, and
spent his life serving others, including children and families suffering
from abuse and neglect while he worked at Lackawanna County CYS. He also

1995. Shortly after meeting, they became inseparable. They married and

loved most, spending time with his family and watching his son ski. Paul
was devoted to his family, and loved his children more than anything in

play basketball, baseball, soccer, karate and skiing. He couldn't wait to
come home from work every day because he loved watching Mila and playing
hide and seek every night with his children before bed. He was a very
generous person, and his last act of generosity was being an organ donor.
He was a member of St. Patrick's Church, West Scranton. Paul's family
