Alfano, George "Wit" died on Friday, 9/26/2008 at the age of 59, after a
short but courageous battle with leukemia. He is survived by his loving wife
Kathy Crisci Alfano, his son Christopher, daughter Michelle, and 2
granddaughters. He is also survived by his sister Darlene Alfano Kaplan,
Class of 69. He was predeceased by his brother, Anthony "Butch" Alfano,
class of 65.
George
and I were close childhood friends, living in the same house for the first 8
years of our lives. We remained close throughout school, and we were next
door neighbors early in our marriages. At the time of his death, we lived
around the corner from each other in Middlehope. While we did not see each
other as much as we would have liked, I did see him last week, and he was
upbeat about his future, and ready to do whatever he had to do to beat his
disease. He will be missed by all those who knew and loved him......... Tom

Innis, Patricia O'Rene Bell, a most wonderful woman and beloved
mother, moved back to heaven this past Sunday, March 9th, 2014. Renie, 64,
was born and currently lived at Orange Lake in Newburgh, NY, with her
husband Norman Bell. She bravely fought Gallbladder Cancer. She was born
to Anne Stevenson and William Innis. Renie, as all the many people
who she touched knew so well, was a very special woman and mother, and her
truly grand spirit will be known and felt forever. May she be as blessed
in heaven, as she has so blessed those around her all of her life.
She really, really, really loved her 3 children: Alex, Pam, and Lori; as
well as her 6 grandchildren: Sophia, Michaela, Victoria, Annelise, Katie,
and Matt. She will also be very missed by her brother Dr. Robert Innis,
many nieces and nephews, cousins, her Aunt Jean Innis Stewart, in-laws,
and many others. We all know that we have been so incredibly lucky, as to
have actually been raised and touched by an angel. She was most
recently working as a bookkeeper and bus driver for the Gallagher Bus
Company. In lieu of flowers, and to help unfortunate children with
Cancer, we are asking anyone wishing to give in her honor, to donate to
the St. Baldrick's Foundation, 1333 So. Mayflower Ave., Suite 400,
Monrovia, CA 91016. Mom had wished that "No child or parent should ever
have to go through the experience of Cancer". She always preferred
to say "I Love You" rather than "Good Bye", and as such wanted only a
small family gathering, rather than a funeral or memorial. To anyone who
did not get a chance to say good bye, as her illness took her far too
quickly, please know that she loved us all very much, and knew that we
loved her so much too ! Funeral arrangements under the direction of

Perrott, Marcia Lynn of Randallstown, Md., who was the co-owner and
director of Mid-Atlantic Gymnastics Center and the USA Gymnastics Region
7 Administrative Committee chairperson for women’s gymnastics, died Dec.
16 following a long battle with cancer. A night of remembrance is
scheduled for Friday, Jan. 2, 2015, at 6 p.m. at FCF World Outreach in
Owings Mills, Md. Perrott was the co-owner/director of Mid-Atlantic
since 1981. She was a nationally rated gymnastics judge and achieved the
U.S. Brevet level. Perrott was the USA Gymnastics Maryland State
Administrative Committee chair from 1990-97 and has served as the Region
7 Administrative Committee chairperson for women's gymnastics since
1997. Perrott was the assistant coach for the Walden School Gymnastics
Team, as well as co-director of the Walden School Continuing Education
Gymnastics Program, from 1978-80. She was also assistant coach for the
Mid-Atlantic Gymnastics Center from 1982-92. She began her dance studies
while earning a B.S. degree in music education from State University
College at Potsdam, N.Y. In New York City, she danced with many
companies before beginning her gymnastics training with Richard Martin
at the Musawwir studio. She joined the Musawwir Gymnastics Dance
Ensemble in1974 and later became co-artistic director in 1979. She
toured with the group throughout the United States and Switzerland,
including a performance at the 1980 Winter Olympic Games in Lake Placid,
N.Y.
Letter sent by Region 7’s Linda Johnson. It is with such deep sadness
that I share with you that Lynn Perrott, our Region 7 Administrative
Chair, passed away last evening. Richard, Lynn’s husband, shared that
she was surrounded by her family, and passed comfortably and peacefully.
Lynn will forever leave her footprint in Region 7. As our Regional
Chair, she led our region with strength, vision and compassion. Her
first priority was our athletes, and she devoted her time and service to
taking care of their needs. Working with our athletes brought her pure
joy. She understood the needs of all of our members— including athletes,
coaches, judges, and businesses. She balanced our regional committees’
experience, ideas and values. She always had her finger on the pulse of
our region, and represented those views on our behalf both nationally
and regionally. Her dedication to our region was always evident in the
relationships she developed and fostered throughout our 6 states. Her
inner strength and commitment to our sport guided her decisions and
conversations, even during the most stressful circumstances. Losing Lynn
leaves a large void in our region and beyond, however her spirit will
remain with us and continue to comfort and unify us as we move forward.
We will remember her for her keen intelligence, sense of humor, wit and
positive attitude, even in the face of her illness. She was an
extraordinary leader for our region and, even more, a cherished friend.
Myra and I each had the opportunity to go to Lynn’s home this week to
spend precious time with her, and to say good-bye. That time meant the
world to us. Lynn knew how much we all loved her and cared about her.
When she was first diagnosed with cancer, her words were “I choose to be
happy”, and she was. Here is a beautiful message from Richard, Lynn’s
husband:
“Lynn wanted you all to know this was not a fight; this was a dance, a
dance with life. Lynn lived in love, care, and compassion of others as
she moved through all aspects of her life. If you stop to feel, she is
still here offering these qualities to all of us.” Her family is so
grateful for the support, caring thoughts and gestures from so many
people in our Region 7 community. Please continue to keep Lynn’s family
in your thoughts and prayers.

Cold Case Report - Jan. 22, Michael and Charlotte Sherman:
Victims were both shot and found behind Powell Memorial at Grand Canyon.
Homicide Michael and Charlotte Sherman entered Grand Canyon National Park
at about 9:30 a.m. on Jan. 22, 1977. Married four years earlier, their
trip started in Texas. They were visiting the South Rim while on their way
to Michael’s new assignment with the U.S. Air Force in California. They
had stayed the night before in Flagstaff. The couple drove West Rim Drive
to Powell Point. The weather was cold, windy, foggy, and a light snow was
falling. Just after 11 a.m., with several vehicles on the drive and in the
area, their bodies were discovered. “They were shot execution style,” said
Joe Sumner, volunteer investigator for the Coconino County Sheriff’s
Office cold case unit. “It appears someone was laying in wait.” The only
reason why the bodies weren’t immediately discovered was that they were
apparently moved in back of the monument. The motive appears to have been
robbery, because a wallet and purse were taken and never recovered. The
cold case unit is currently working on trying to solve nearly 40 cold
cases in the county like the Sherman’s, dating back to the 1950s. Sumner,
who retired from the National Park Service in 2007 as a criminal
investigator, came onto the cold case unit in 2008. Sumner had worked the
Sherman case with the sheriff’s office while he worked for the National
Park Service. Cases of visitors coming to harm while at the canyon
typically revolved around animal attacks, or lightning strikes, or falls
from the rim. “A robbery homicide in the middle of a national park in the
middle of the day -- this is an exception, this is the only one that I can
think of,” Sumner said. Witnesses reported seeing a man and a woman in the
vicinity of Powell Point at the time of the murder. They have never been
identified, and Sumner said they could have important information about
the case. They were seen driving a light tan, or off-white station wagon
that was possibly a 1969 Ford Fairlane or Galaxie, or a 1970 Rambler, or a
1963 Chevy Impala. Over the years, the case has been thoroughly
investigated, Sumner said. The case was picked up again in the 1980s, and
has been worked since then, too. The cold case unit even traveled to
Georgia not too long ago to interview a man and a woman who fit the
description of the pair witnesses remember seeing at the time the Shermans
were killed. The man they interviewed was doing life in prison for
robbery-homicide committed with a similar weapon, Sumner said. But the man
was eliminated as a suspect. Sumner added that the unit resubmitted
evidence and received some DNA evidence that appears to belong to a
suspect. The identity of who the DNA sample belongs to is unknown for now.
Next steps are to keep working the DNA evidence by finding suspects who
have not been eliminated and find a match. And the unit has had matches in
the past. The case continues to occupy Sumner. “Having worked in National
Parks my adult life, just the fact that this happened this way at this
place, it makes this case important,” Sumner said. He said the Shermans
were “total innocents, an all-American couple,” doing what should be a
very safe activity. “Parks aren’t always safe, but they should be safe
from this,” Sumner said. Sumner said the family makes periodic checks on
the status of the case. “It’s devastated the family still,” Sumner said.

cold case division at 774-4523, or visit the Facebook page. Larry

As printed in the newspaper. A HAIRY PROBLEM ---- These
Newburgh Free Academy Rock and Roll singers called the "SAPIANS" say they
have been awarded a recording contract with Mercury Records. Under the
agreement their hair must remain long and bushy, trademark of today's
"successful" teen-age singing groups. They'll be going back to school with
the long mops of hair while their manager hopes school officials will not
ask them to cut it off. Posted by Tom Cifarelli 66 Posted by Steve Kieva 1967
