Jack was always a class act for me from the first time I met him in
NJHS. When I read his obit thoughts of his athletic career went thru my
mind. The one thought that brought a smile was remembering how Pew Wee
Baines and Jack would banter back & forth keeping us laughing. A sad
day for Newburgh and for all of those who knew him.

Rider, James L.
"Jimmy" a prominent Washington divorce lawyer and national authority on
mediation, died April 24, 2005 at Washington Hospital Center after
suffering a heart attack at the end of a seven mile run in Rock Creek
Park. Mr. Rider, a former military lawyer, ran regularly as part of his
conditioning training for what would have been his third Marine Corps
Marathon A standout high school and college tennis player, he took up
running in recent years after his son, Michael Rider, a fashion designer,
expressed interest in the annual marathon held in October. "He was
addicted to sports," said Sandy Ain, a well-known Washington divorce
lawyer who was a friend and occasional professional adversary of Mr.
Rider's. "He was a wonderful sportsman who brought integrity, focus and
calmness to his game, whether it was tennis or golf," Ain said. "He
brought that same demeanor to his law practice. His hallmark was an
incredible high level of integrity and solid judgement. Even his
adversaries trusted his judgement." Mr. Rider was a senior partner of
Margolius, Mallios & Rider, a firm he joined in 1969. Over the years ,
he gained a reputation among his clients and peers as an understated yet
eloquent and highly discreet lawyer. He became the one to whom members of
Washington's influential social, political and business circles often
turned for matters of family law, particularly divorce and child custody
issues. In that often acrimonious arena, Mr. Rider never lost sight of
doing what he could to protect children, Ain said. "He was very caring,
often fshioning settlements few other lawyers could hope to do," he said.
Mr. Rider's success, experience and expertise helped make him a regular in
Washington magazine's list of top local divorce lawyers. In one of it's
profiles, the magazine described him as "confident but not blustery -- he
won't offer or promise anything he can't deliver." It was his
even-handedness, Ain said, that led court judges to select Mr. Rider to
serve as a family law mediator. There was also a toughness about him that
helped him survive an attack in Rock Creek Park in 1995, when he was
stabbed several times and robbed of his bike. Mr. Rider, who lived in
Washington, was a native of Newburgh, N.Y. He graduated from Lafayette
College in 1963 and Fordham University law school in 1966. He then joined
the Army and served as a captain in the Judge Advocate General's Corps,
handling criminal cases and appellate matters while stationed in South
Korea and the Pentagon. He was a member of Bethesda Country Club and an
elected fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers. In addition
to his son Michael of New York, survivors include his wife of 28 years,
Eleanor Y. Rider of Washington; another son, actor Jordan E. Rider of Los
Angeles; and a brother, David L. Rider of Newburgh.

Sinisgalli, Joan A. Cerone beloved wife, mother and grandmother, died at
home surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, November 16, 2008. She was
67 years old. Joan was the epitome of what a human being should be;
nurturing and working tirelessly to care for her husband, children and
grandchildren. That was her life's work and all else was the icing on the
cake for Joan. Joan also loved her job at Newburgh Auto Auction, and
missed her friends while fighting a courageous, but relatively short
battle with cancer. She enjoyed playing Progressive Rummy with her family
and friends. Joan was born on May 30, 1941, Memorial Day. It so happens
that Anthony Cerone, her husband-to-be, took his first steps and walked on
that very same day. Joan was born to Joseph R. and Ann R. Zmudzinski
Sinisgalli, in a small house in New Windsor, NY. Joan leaves her loving
and devoted husband of over 45 years, Anthony and six beautiful and loving
children, Melanie (Anthony Piscopo) of Walden, NY, Kelly (Peter Yanda) of
Aurora, OH, David (Lisa DiMartino) of Walden, NY, Timothy (Malissa
Faccenda) of the Town of Newburgh, Jodi (John Chivattoni) of Newburgh, NY,
and Kristen (Paul Mayer) of Newbrugh, NY; Joan also leaves eleven loving
grandchildren: Amy, David, Christopher, Andrew, Katy, Samantha, Timothy,
Anthony, Thomas, Jonah and Ryan. Joan was also proud of her ten
step-grandchildren from the marriages of Timothy, Jodi and Kristen.
Survivors also include her brother, Joseph A. Sinisgalli (Ellen) of Lathm,
NY; sister, Kathleen Corbin (William) of Newburgh, NY; aunt, Mary of Erie,
PA; and several cousins, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her
father, Joseph and mother, Ann. Joan leaves behind a legacy of love and
true compassion. All who came in contact with her or who had the pleasure
of Joan's companionship knew her as a giving and warm person. She truly
practiced the Golden Rule, and didn't harbor negative feelings concerning
any human being. Her kindness, warmth, compassion and selflessness will be
sorely missed by all, but especially by Tony, her hubby. We'll all miss
her cooking, baking and strawberry jelly. Joan's garden brightened the
neighborhood and she was a tireless worker in and around her home. Life
without her will go on, but it will indeed be a little less in-focus, and
noticeably dimmer without her presence. Joan was a strong personality and
her faith in the Lord added to her determination to live her life in the
best possible way. She proclaimed her faith in the Lord Jesus as her
Savior and left this life fully confident in the Lord's promise of
redemption to those faithful to him. Joan talked the talk and she walked
the walk, leaving us a wonderful example and witness to what a Christian
wife, mother, grandmother and friend really is. She is painfully missed.
Visitation will be held from 6-9 p.m. on Tuesday, November 18, with a wake
service at 8:30 p.m. and from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Wednesday, November 19,
at Brooks Funeral Home, 481 Gidney Ave., Newburgh. A Mass of Christian
Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Thursday, November 20, at St.
Mary's Church, Montgomery. Burial will follow in Mt. Saint Francis

NY 12549.
