Adams, Eleanor Lauctes (NFA 51) and Joseph H. Lauctes (NFA38) of
Cornwall, entered into rest on Wednesday, February 14, 2007, at home. He
was 86, she was 74. Joseph was the son of the late Adam and Stella
Maslowski Lauctes, born on May 2, 1920 in New Windsor, N.Y. Eleanor
was born on January 16, 1933 in Newburgh, N.Y., daughter of the late
Bernard and Sylvia Wald Adams. Joseph proudly served in U.S. Army
during World War II, and was a retired Technician from IBM in East
Fishkill, N.Y. They are survived by their children: Joseph Lauctes
of Newburgh, Bernard A. Lauctes of Indiana, Regina Kuhnemund and her
husband, Rob of Florida, and Cathy Brannigan of New Windsor; four
grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews,
cousins and friends. In addition, Eleanor is survived by her
brothers, Bernard Adams and his wife, Maryann, and Kenneth Adams and his
wife, Jean, both of Newburgh, and her sister, Regina Spahalski and her
husband, Stanley of York, Pa. Joseph was predeceased by his brother,
John Lauctes, and sisters, Rose Zamenick and Mary Pikul. Eleanor was
predeceased by her brother, Robert Adams. A visitation will be held from 1

Allen, John Jr., 66,
of Rochester and formerly of Newburgh, died 5/13/99 at home. Mr. Allen
served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. Born in Cornwall on Sept.
24, 1932, he was a son of the late John and Mary Celestine Oliver Allen
Sr. He married Constance Parker. Mrs. Allen survives at home in
Poughkeepsie. Survivors include three daughters, Anna Wilson, Helen
Purnell, and Emma Viola Parker, all of Poughkeepsie; two brothers, Rev.
Robert Phil Oliver Sr., Beacon, and Melvin Allen Sr., Newburgh; 11
grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by one
brother, Kenneth Weldon Allen. Calling hours are 11 a.m. to noon, at
Brutus W. Hodge Funeral Home, 13 Chambers St., Newburgh. Funeral

Anastasia, Elaine Hesse a retired Loan Officer for Fleet Bank in
Newburgh, N.Y. formerly employed by Key Bank and longtime area resident,
died Wednesday, June 9, 2004 at St. Luke's Cornwall Hospital, Newburgh
Campus. She was 70. The daughter of the late Elias and Mary Alfieri
Anastasis, she was born October 11, 1933 in Newburgh. She was an active
member of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Newburgh, singing in the
church choir and active in the Ladies Club. Survivors include her son,
Francis Hesse and his wife Amy of Los Angeles, Ca; daughters: Elian
McCready and her husband Scott of Newburgh, Lia Steffy and her husband
Benton of Newburgh and Angelyn Galati and her husband Gregg of Newburgh,
grandchildren: Daemien Espindola, Aislynn Espindola, Conor McCready,
J.B. Steffy, Ryan Steffy, Kyle Steffy, Jackson Galati, Sage Galati and
Eric Hesse; and one great grandchild, Maya Espindola. Visitation will be

Beers, Donna Quick passed away on Saturday, January 31, 2015 with her
family by her side in Pine Bush, NY. She was 80 years old. The daughter
of the late John Jack and Emma Colburn Beers, Donna was born in
Newburgh, New York. Donna was a dispatcher for over 30 years in the
village of Walden. She was also a member of the Walden Volunteer
Ambulance Corps. She will be missed dearly by her family and friends.

Gayle Smith and husband, William of Walden, Virginia Shaw of Walden;

Berean, Howard A.
of New Windsor,N.Y. died Friday, February 21, 2003 at the
Westchester County Medical Center, with his loving family at his side.
He was 69. The son of Howard R. and Dorothy Reynolds Berean, he was born
on May 7, 1933 in Newburgh. Howard graduated from the Newburgh Free
Academy in 1951, and then attended the Brooklyn College of Pharmacy. He
served in the US Army from 1952 to 1954. He married Laurine Attanasio on
June 16, 1956 at Holy Name Church in Brooklyn. Mr. Berean worked for the
New York Telephone Co. as a lineman for 35 years. He retired in 1991.
Howard was working part time for the Coloni Funeral Home in New Windsor
at the time of his death. He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers, The
Communications Workers of America local 1120, and a member of the
American Legion. Howard was also very gifted in athletics. He was a
former New York State Speed Skating champion, and also tried out as a
catcher with the Pittsburgh Pirates. Mr. Berean was very community
oriented; he was a little league coach in the city of Newburgh for
several years. He also gave blood on a regular basis, and belonged to
the Volunteer Ambulance Corps earlier in his life. He was a member of
St. Joseph's Church, where he served as a Eucharistic Minister, and an
Usher, and also Volunteered at bingo for the Church. Howard is survived
by his devoted wife, Laurine of New Windsor; his loving children,
Elizabeth Marshall and her husband, Brian, of Newburgh, Fr. Christopher
Berean of Phoenicia, and Stephen Berean and his wife, Missy, of Cornwall
On Hudson; his dear sister, Shirley Sarinsky of Marlboro; and his
cherished grandchildren, Sean and Jennifer Berean, and Joseph Marshall.
Howard's family will be present to receive friends on Monday, February
24 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Coloni Funeral Home, 3001 Rte. 9W, New
Windsor. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, February 25, at

Beretta, Robert J.
of Newburgh, a retired repairman and installer of telephones for the New
York Telephone Company, Newburgh, and lifelong resident of the area,
died Friday, May 24, 1996 at Sloane Kettering Hospital, New York
City. He was 64. The son of the late Giacomo and Domenica
Boccagni Beretta, he was born Jan. 12, 1932 in Newburgh. He was an
Army veteran; a member of the Middlehope Fire Company; and a member of
the Telephone Pioneers of America, Newburgh. Survivors include his
wife, Jo Ann Canali Beretta, at home one daughter, Brenda Perri of
Jackson, NJ; one son, Robert Beretta of Monroe; two brothers, Navarino
Beretta and Fausto Beretta, both of the Town of Newburgh, one sister
Teresa Mazzola of the Town of Newburgh; and several nieces and

Bilello, Lawrence R. Sr. of Berea Road Walden died
Saturday, Dec. 11 at home after a long illness. A former resident
of New Windsor, Bilello was chairman of the Town's Republican Committee
and later was Republican Chairman for Orange County. He was
60. Current New Windsor GOP Chairman Hank Van Leeuwen praised
Bilello for his public service. "He was an excellent chairman for
New Windsor and for the County," Van Leeuwen said. "He dedicated a lot
of his time over the years to the Town. I thought a lot of
Larry." The son of the late Anthony and Rose Cetani Bilello, he
was born May 14, 1933 in Brooklyn. He was the former president of
Luna Baking Company, Inc. Newburgh, and was a retired sales manager with
Sunshine Ford Newburgh. He served for many years on the New
Windsor Zoning Board of Appeals. He was a member of the Cursillo
Movement, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 973, Newburgh and Catholic
War Veterans. He was a past member of the New Windsor Lions Club,
Vails Gate Fire Department and the New Windsor Auxiliary Police and past
charter member of Unico. Survivors include his wife, the former
Julia T. D'Angelo at home; four sons, Anthony Bilello, Michael Bilello
and Joseph Bilello, all of Walden, and Lawrence R. Bilello of Mundelein
IL.; three daughters Rosemary Reeves of Cornwall, Marianne Pacione of
Middletown, and Julianna Bilello of Walden; two sisters Joseph Bivona
and Elizabeth Panello both of New Windsor; nine grandchildren and
several nieces and nephews. Funeral arrangements were handled by

Carleton, Anne M. Sanfilippo age 80, passed away on Friday, April
19, 2013 at her residence in Wantage. Born in Newburgh, New York to the
late Harry and Helen Carleton, Mrs. Sanfilippo had lived in Fair Lawn
before retiring to Ocala, Florida. She had recently lived in Georgia
before moving to Sussex County this year. Mrs. Sanfilippo was
predeceased by her husband, Alfred in 2012 and her grandson, Joseph
Sanfilippo in 2011. She is survived by her son, Mark Sanfilippo of

30, 2006 at home surrounded by her loving husband and children.
Rosemarie was born June 1, 1933 at West Point, N.Y., to the late Edward
and Helen Pecka Caron. She married Leroy Stanford on January 18,
1952 at St. Francis Church in Newburgh, N.Y. Rosemarie was past
President of the New Windsor Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. She was a
loving mother and devoted grandmother. Survivors include her
husband, Leroy Stanford, at home; her daughter, Mary Baxter and her
husband, Daniel, of New Windsor; her son, Walter Stanford and his wife,
Deborah, of Virginia; and her sister, Bertha Traver of New Windsor. She
is also survived by five grandchildren: Christopher, Scott, Sean, Walter
and Allyssa; several nieces and cousins; her brother-in-law, Vernon

Fred E. Sr. "Ted" of the Town of Newburgh a retired Postal
Worker for Newburgh Post Office, and a life-long area resident,
died last Wednesday, August 5 at St. Lukes Hospital, Newburgh. He
was 61. The son of the late Kenneth Sr. and Deronda Reynolds
Casey, he was born Oct. 20, 1930 in New York City. He was a member
of the American Legion, Judson P. Galloway Post 152, a U.S. Air Force
veteran of the Korean conflict; and an employee for Government Service
for 33 years. Survivors include two sons, Fred "Ted" Casey, Jr. and
Kevin P. Casey of Marlboro; one daughter Sandra J. Walker of Highland
Mills; one brother, Kenneth Casey Jr. of New Windsor; several

E. "Pat" age 76 died on July 5, 2009 at his summer residence in
Ocean View, NJ. Born in Glassboro, NJ, he graduated from Newburgh Free
Academy in Newburgh, NY in 1951. He had lived in Glassboro since 1955.
He worked for Owens Illinois as a photo composer, retiring after 40
years. He is survived by his wife of 50 years Anita E. (nee DiMaeo),
daughters Patricia Certo, Elaine Desiderio.

Joseph "Joe" of Newburgh, entered into rest on October 4,
2006 at St. Luke's Cornwall Hospital, Newburgh Campus. He was 73. Son of
the late Joseph and Ruth Hulse Cervoni, he was born January 12, 1933 in
Newburgh, NY. Joseph was honorably discharged from the US Army, having
served during the Korean Conflict. He was the former proprietor of
Empire Billiards in Newburgh, and lastly was a bus driver for Mid-State
Bus Services. He is survived by his wife, Nancy Coons Cervoni, at home,
whom he married on April 29, 1961. He is further survived by five
children: Michele Anderson and her husband, Eric, Candace Roberts and
her husband, Chris, Linda Peterson and her husband, Bruce, Wendy Lown
and James Lown and his wife, Melissa; two grandchildren, Cynthia Lown
and Christopher Roberts; one sister, Karen Odell; and several nieces and

Mathew A. of Maybrook, passed away on Wednesday, January 5, 2011 at
home, surrounded by his loving family. He was 78. Son of the late
Fredrick and Anna Morrison Chrystal, he was born on April 3, 1932 in
Newburgh. He married Kathleen Iazzetti Chrystal on July 28, 1995, who
survives at home. He was formerly married to Marlene Chrystal. Mathew
attended Bowling Green College and was an engineer for the NYS
Department of Transportation. In college he played football, basketball
and baseball. As a fast-pitch softball player, his team defeated the
King and his Court. In addition to his loving wife, Kathleen, he is
survived by his loving children, Colleen Chrystal and her son, Jake of
Maybrook, Mathew Chrystal and his wife, Linda of Indiana; step-children,
Michael and Margaret McCormick, Patrick and Kaitlyn McCormick and their
families; sisters, Katherine Conroy and her husband, Marty and Dawn
Taylor and her husband, Robert; He was predeceased by his brothers,
Frank and Jim Chrystal; and sister, Ethel Pastoor. Visitation will be

62. He was the son of the late Dominick A. and Margaret Politano
Coloni, he was born Sept. 24, 1933, in Newburgh. He was an Army
veteran. He Also ws a member of UNICO of Newburgh, the Pastime
Athletic Club of Newburgh, the Lions Club of New Windsor, the Powelton
Club of Newburgh and the Eastern Orange Chamber of Commerce; was a
third-degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council 444, Newburgh and
belonged to the Orange and Rockland Funeral Directors Association, the New
York State Funeral Directors Association and the National Funeral
Directors Association. Survivors include his wife, Angelina Damiano
Coloni at home; one son Richard Brian Coloni of New Windsor; three

He was employed as a Surety Bond Underwriter and Assistant Vice President
of Reliance Co. Philadelphia, PA for 33 years retiring in June of 2000. He
graduated from Fairleigh Dickinson College in Teaneck, NJ with a BS. He
was a U.S. Air Force veteran serving during the Korean War. He was a

Motte, Frances
Dennegan, Patricia "Pat" Galage entered into rest on March 30, 2008,
after valiantly fighting several bouts of cancer, with her loving
husband of 52 years, Dominick, at her side. The daughter of the late
Raymond and Rose Dennegan, she was born December 15, 1933 in Brooklyn,
NY, and later moved to the Newburgh area at the age of ten, and has been
a resident ever since. Pat had touched many lives during her time with
us. She was a member of St. Patrick's Church and school, where she
played a significant role in winning several NY State CYO basketball
championships under the guidance of Fr. Luedke. It was during her times
at St. Patrick's that she developed friendships, which have lasted over
65 years. Later, Pat graduated from NFA in 1951. During her times in
high school, Pat was Senior Class Secretary, Cheerleading Captain and
was the school's first "Miss NFA". It was during her high school days
where she met her high school sweetheart, Dom, whom she married in 1955.
Dom and Pat spent the next 52 years together creating family and
actively participating in many community activities. Survivors include
her husband, Dom; sons, Michael Galage and his wife, Pam of Louisville,
KY, Timothy Galage and his wife, Therese of Midlothian, VA, Daniel
Galage and his fiancee, Michelle Santamarina of Newburgh, NY, Kevin
Galage and his wife, Heather of Newburgh, NY. Additionally, she was
blessed with ten grandchildren: Jacklyn, Matt, Megan and Ryan Galage of
Kentucky, Stephanie and Becky Galage of Virginia, Daniel and Nicholas

Doulin, Anthony
P. "Tony" of Newburgh, N.Y. a proud father, grandfather and
great-grandfather, entered into rest on Thursday, October 9, 2003 in St.
Luke's Hospital after a brave battle with pulmonary fibrosis. He was 69.
The son of the late Joseph and Kathryn Doulin, he was born on January 3,
1934 in Newburgh. Tony was a graduate of Newburgh Free Academy and
married his high school sweetheart, Catherine L. Pucino on October 26,
1952, who sadly passed away on July 15, 1998. Tony was a member of the
United States Marine Corp, where he achieved the rank of Sergeant and
served with the Marines in the Korean War ("Semper Fi"). He retired from
the U.S. Army Reserves after 39 years of service at the rank of Master
Sergeant. Tony was retired from Central Hudson Gas and Electric Company
and was a proud member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, the veterans
of Foreign Wars and the Elks Club, Lodge No. 247. Survivors include his
loving daughter, Kathleen Doulin of Montgomery; his three sons, Anthony
and his wife Laurie Doulin of Wallkill, Patrick and his wife Prudence
Doulin of Salisbury Mills and Daniel and his wife Nancy Doulin of
Wappingers Falls. He is also survived by his loving granddaughters,
Hayley and Kelly Doulin of Wallkill and Meaghan and Brigid Doulin of
Salisbury Mills; his grandson, Michael Anthony Doulin of Salisbury
Mills; great-granddaughter, Ivy Doulin of Wallkill. Additional survivors
include sisters-in-law, Nancy J. Doulin of Newburgh, Angie McDermott of
Cornwall and Rose Kiviniemi of North Carolina; brothers-in-law, Richard
Pucino of Pennsylvania, Michael Pucino of Nevada, Nicholas Pucino of
Pennsylvania and Donald Kiviniemi of North Carolina; many nieces,
nephews and cousins; and a host of treasured friends, including Francis
"Mizzy" Vernol of Newburgh. He is also survived by his wonderful dog,
Buck, who now resides with his adopted family in upstate New York. He
was predeceased by his loving wife, Catherine; his son, Michael Francis;
and his two brothers, Daniel Doulin and Joseph Doulin. The Doulin family
would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the entire staff at St.
Luke's Hospital, Mobile Life Support Services, Coldenham Fire and Rescue
Department and to our friends and neighbors whose prayers, calls and

Durick, Noreen Gross the cherished and "catered to" only child of Bud
and Helen Durick passed from this life on January 20, 2013. She joins
her parents and her beloved husband, Bob Gross to whom she was married
for 52 years. Noreen was born in Newburgh, NY on February 25, 1934. She
graduated from Newburgh Free Academy (thank you Driver's Ed!) and
married Bob Gross on July 11, 1954. Bob was transferred to South
Carolina in 1978 and Anderson became their home. She retired from the
Newburgh School System after 17 years of service and was a member of the
Manpower Staff of Anderson. Noreen was a volunteer for AnMed Health
Medical Center. She was a member St. Joseph's Church, The Hilltoppers
Club, Anderson Country Club, and Senior Solutions. Noreen is survived by
her daughters, Nori Gale, her devoted caregiver, of Anderson and Dianne
(Glenn) Thomaris of Elmira, NY; her grandchildren, Brandon (Heather)
Gale of Myrtle Beach, SC, Bobby and Marianne Thomaris of Elmira, NY; two
cherished cousins who were the sisters she never had, Kay Wagner and
Claire Benson of Newburgh, NY. Survivors also include special cousin,
Pat Mullarkey; sisters-in-law, Barbara Canzoneri, Tess Waters, Virginia
Gross and Jeanne Gross; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and special
friends, Kay O'Brien and Ann Kohlmeyer. Her fiery Irish personality will

Fairbanks, Kathryn J. Lanspery "Kay" 56 of Gardnertown Road, Town
of Newburgh died Saturday, Oct. 21, 1989 at St. Luke's Hospital,
Newburgh. Born Feb. 7, 1933 in Newburgh, she was the daughter of
George and Violet Hulse Fairbanks and the wife of Richard
Lanspery. Lanspery was a retired clerk at Off Track Betting,
Catskill and a lifelong area resident. She was a member of the
Order of the Eastern Star, Newburgh. Survivors include her widower
at home, her parents of New Windsor; two sons, Richard Lanspery of New
Milford, Conn. and Steven Lanspery of Italy; four daughters, Deborah

Barbara Ann Durham, a Newburgh native, passed away on June 25, 2013 at
La Mariposa Care & Rehabilitation Center in Fairfield, CA. She was
80. Born Barbara Ann Feldman on June 5, 1933 in West Point, she was the
oldest daughter of the late Frederick Feldman and Mary Bessert Feldman
Graziano. She graduated from Newburgh Free Academy in 1951 and studied
at Spencerian Business School in Newburgh. She was a member of St.
Francis of Assisi Church in Newburgh and a member of the VFW Auxiliary.
In 1977 Barbara moved to Wichita Falls, TX, with her husband, Robert
(Bob) Durham. She lived in Texas for 23 years. When her husband died she
moved to Fairfield, CA to be closer to her only daughter and
grandchildren. She lived in Fairfield from 2000 till her death.
Barbara's survivors include her daughter, JoAnn Deja Chapman and her
husband, Gary, of Redondo Beach, CA; brother, Donald Feldman of Highland
Falls; sisters: Jo Graziano-Beiter of New Milford, CT and Lorraine
Conley of Highland Falls; four grandchildren: Stephani and Dale Chapman,
Rachel Cockman and Robert Kinney. She was predeceased by her husband,
Robert Durham; two sisters: Evelyn Mairose and Eleanor Rose; and one

Galage, Dominick "Dom" on February 10, 2013 peacefully at home
with his family at his side. The son of the late Joseph and Mary Galage,
he was born April 25, 1933 in Newburgh, NY where he was a lifetime
resident. Pop" as he was affectionately called by his grandchildren, had
a lifetime full of accomplishments. As a young man he was active in
sports playing high school football and track as well as serving as
Senior Class President. He went on to graduate from Manhattan College
with a degree in electrical engineering. Upon graduating he joined IBM
where he enjoyed a highly successful career for over 40 years. His most
cherished accomplishment was the relationship and marriage with his wife
of over 52 years, Pat Galage. Dom met Pat in high school where they fell
in love. They were married in 1955 and spent the next 52 years together
raising a family and actively participating in their community and
church. Pat's death in 2008 left a tremendous void in "Pop's" life and
now he can rejoin his bride. In addition to his wife, Pat he was
predeceased by his sister, Gracie Galage of Newburgh. Survivors include
sons, Michael Galage and his wife, Pam of Louisville, KY, Timothy Galage
and his wife, Therese of Richmond VA, Daniel Galage and his wife,
Michelle of Newburgh, NY, and Kevin Galage and his wife, Heather of

Genter, Michelle A. "Mickey" Jannotti entered into rest on Thursday,
November 21st, 2013 at St. Luke's Cornwall Hospital- Newburgh campus
with her loving family at her side. Mickey was born on July 11, 1933 in
Newburgh, New York. She was the daughter of John and Anna Hayes Genter.
Both parents predeceased their daughter. Mickey now joins her husband of
50 years, Henry A. Jannotti. They were married July 24, 1955 at St.
Mary's Church, Newburgh. A lifelong area resident, Mickey worked as a
cashier at Newburgh Free Academy in the cafeteria. Mickey was a
communicant of both Sacred Heart Church and St. Mary's in Newburgh, a
member and treasurer of the Catholic Daughters - Court Patricia, and a
20 year volunteer at St. Luke's Cornwall Hospital, Newburgh campus.

Joseph a lifetime resident of Newburgh, entered into rest on Monday,
October 27, 2014. He was 80 years old. Son of the late Sebastian and
Mary (Sutton) Geraci, he was born September 10, 1934 in Newburgh. He was
married to the late Myra (Wiersena) Geraci, who predeceased him in 1998.
Joseph was an Eagle Scout who loved nature of which he enjoyed painting
and photographing. He enjoyed gardening, music, and had a passion for
breeding and showing boxers which he shared with his children. As
proprietor and part owner of Geraci's Market, Joe enjoyed serving
customers as friends and community members. He loved to serve others and
was an honorary member of Unico and the Vails Gate Fire Co. An avid
member of the Newburgh Chapter of Unico, one of his proudest
accomplishments was to help lead the placement of the Columbus statue on
the Hudson riverfront in Newburgh and tending the surrounding grounds.
He always put his heart in his work whether it was hand selecting the
best quality meat as a buyer, special cuts as a butcher, or decorating
the storefront and sidewalks of Geraci's Market. He took pride in his
work which he instilled in his family. He cherished his memories with
his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will be missed with fond

Gimbert, Marie A. Mycek, 79, of Wellington, Ohio died Monday, Sept. 2,
2013, at home after a lengthy illness. She was born Feb. 20, 1934, in
New Windsor, N.Y., to the late John and Bertha (nee Pecka) Gimbert and
was a 1951 graduate of Newburgh Free Academy. Marie grew up and spent
her youth in New York, moving to Wellington in 1960. Marie worked with
her husband at POV Products. She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic
Church and liked to knit and read. Marie enjoyed the simple life,
devoting herself to being a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Marie
is survived by her loving husband, George, who she would have been
married to for 61 years on Sept. 21. She is also survived by her
children, Patricia (Jack) Sumpter, Beth ( Mark) Zacharias, and Pete
(Lisa) Mycek, all of Wellington; grandchildren Daniel and David Sumpter,

Citizens and a member of Holy Name of Mary Church, Montgomery. The family

73. She was a very loving mother and grandmother, who gave

Joseph R of Seminole, Fla., entered into rest on Sat. March 18, 2006 at
Northside Hospital in St. Petersburg. He was 72. Born in Cornwall, he
was the son of the late Richard and Florence Ann Greenhalgh Herbison. A
graduate of Newburgh Free Academy and the Crane School of Music in
Potsdam, he received a Master's Degree from Hofstra University and
earned his Doctorate at the University of Arizona in musical arts. He
became director of music education for the Hauppage School District and
was an adjunct professor of music at St. Joseph's College in Smithtown.
He served as president of the New York State Council of Administrators
of Music Education, the Hauppage Assoc. of Administrative Personnel,
Suffolk County Music Educators Assoc., consultant to the New York State
Education Dept., supported the Metropolitan Opera, the Lincoln Center
For The Performing Arts, and served two years in the Army. He is
survived by his sister-in-law, Dolores Herbison of Treasure Island,
Fla.; and cousin both in Florida and the North East. There will be no
public visitation. Burial in Woodlawn Cemetery, New Windsor will take
place at a future date.

Hollenbeck, James R. "Swede" a lifelong Newburgh resident and retired
president of Hollenbeck and Dailey, Inc., entered into rest Thursday,
March 29, 2001. He was 69. He was the son of the late Oscar S. and
Lillian Zimmerlund Hollenbeck and was born October 25, 1931 in Newburgh.
A Family Statement reads, "Jim was a loving, caring husband, father, and
grandfather. He was loved by everyone who knew him and liked by people
who came in contact with him." Mr. Hollenbeck was a member of St.
Francis Church, Newburgh and the Cherokee Preserve Club. He was a
graduate of Newburgh Free Academy in 1951. Mr. Hollenbeck proudly served
his country in the Army in the Korean War. He received numerous honors
and medals including the Combat Medical Badge, the Purple Heart, the
Korean Service Medal with two Bronze Service Stars, the United Nations
Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct
Medal. Survivors include his beloved wife, Mary Aulogia Hollenbeck, whom
he married November 23, 1952 at Sacred Heart Church, Newburgh; two sons,
James S. Hollenbeck of Newburgh, Christopher Hollenbeck of Connecticut,

Howard, John W. "Jack" of Newburgh retired property recovery
specialist with I.B.M. East Fishkill and a long time resident of the
area,died Wednesday June 21, 1995 at St. Barnabas Hospital in the
Bronx. He was 63. The son of the late Ruby E. Shreeves Howard he
was born June 15, 1932 in St. Joseph MO. Survivors include two
brothers, Richard A. Howard of Walden and Robert E. Howard of
Huntsville, Ala, one sister Ruth Ann Howard of Honolulu, Hawaii; three

Hunt, Joan M. McCormick "Joanie" 55, of Howard Drive Newburgh died
Friday June 2, 1989 at St. Luke's Hospital Newburgh. Born Aug. 17,
1933 in Newburgh, she was the daughter of William H. and Ann Cornish
Hunt, and the wife of Robert R. McCormick. McCormick was a
saleslady at Sears in the Newburgh Mall, Newburgh and a member of
Sacred Heart Church, Newburgh. Survivors include her widower at
home; three sons Robert McCormick and Michael McCormick both of
Cornwall and William McCormick of the Town of Newburgh, three
grandchildren. Arrangements were held at Doulin Funeral Home in

Hunter, Charles W. "Chick" of Walden, a retired general manager of Grand
Union after 46 years of service, entered into rest, Friday, Sept. 29,
2000, at home. He was 67. The son of the late Charles W. and Phoebe
Hanlon Hunter, he was born Feb. 28, 1933, in Newburgh. A family
statement read: "You were a wonderful husband, father, grandfather,
great-grandfather, brother, son-in-law and friend. We will always have
you deep in our hearts. You taught us about love, understanding and
patience. You truly lived your life to keep all of us happy, never once
putting yourself first. You never asked or expected anything in return
and were satisfied by the smile on our faces and knowing that you were
the one we all counted on for help. Your unselfish ways touched everyone
and made you a "one of a kind" person who left a lasting impression on
those who were blessed enough to know you. You saw the good in everyone,
never criticized and taught us all the true meaning of friendship, and
most important, of family. You were a great person and nothing could
ever take that away from you or will ever take you away from us. We love
you." Survivors include his wife, Barbara Golla Hunter, at home; one
son, Charles "Chuck" Hunter Jr. of New Windsor; two stepsons, Bernard
"Bernie" P. Satkowski of Cornwall and Paul T. Satkowski of Salisbury
Mills; two daughters, Sherrilyn "Sherrie" Darrer of Chester and Susan
Dabroski of Newburgh; one stepdaughter, Jan Bohannon of Paradise Valley,

Ingram, Herman
A. "Herm" a lifelong resident of Newburgh, died peacefully on
Monday, October 9, 2006 after a courageous battle with pancreatic
cancer. The son of the late Herman and Lillian Howard Ingram, he was
born May 21, 1933 in Newburgh, N.Y. He was 73. Herman was a graduate of
Newburgh Free Academy, and joined the U.S. Army in 1953. He began
working for the U.S. Postal Service in 1961 from which he retired in
1996 after 35 years of service. He was the Captain of the Fire Police
for the Goodwill Fire Department, where he served as a volunteer for
over 55 years. He enjoyed serving his community through the Goodwill
Fire Department. A family statement reads: "Herman was a caring man who
loved helping others. Whenever someone needed something, he was always
there for them. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He
especially enjoyed holiday gatherings and great food. As a proud grandpa
in retirement, he always made himself available to be "On Call" to
provide chauffeur duties. He enjoyed taking his granddaughters to their
various activities, class field trips or even dropping off forgotten
homework or instruments to school. He looked forward to the spring, so
that he could plant his garden and give his vegetables to family and
friends. He seemed to have a "green thumb" especially with his tomatoes.
Herman enjoyed bowling with his wife and friends on Thursdays in the
Mens'/Womens' Mixed League at Pat Tarsio's for over 30 years. He will
live forever in our hearts." Survivors include his loving wife, Sally
Jane Ingram of New Windsor; children: Lisa and her husband, Eben York,
of Newburgh, Timothy and Patricia Ingram of Newburgh, and Betsy and Bren
Flanigan of Virginia; five grandchildren: Amanda and Jenna York, Kyle
and Travis Ingram, and Devin and Kelly Flanigan; sisters, Lillian
Rasmussen Depuy, Mary Ryan and her husband, Bill, of Newburgh; brother,
Donald Ingram and his wife, Jimie-Ann, of Cocoa Beach, Fla.; and many
nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Hazel Hamilton;
brothers-in-law: Donald Depuy, Richard Hamilton, and Cecil Fetchner; and
sister-in-law, Lorraine Hamilton. Visitation will be held from 2-4 and

away Monday, January 6, 2003. He was 68. The son of Rose and Anothony
Koisch, he was born February 27, 1934 in Newburgh. John attended Newburgh
schools and graduated from Newburgh Free Academy in 1951. He graduated
from West Point Military Academy in 1959 and served two tours in Vietnam
(65-66, 71-72) with M.A.C.V. He graduated from the Army's 1181 course
(Guided Missile Staff Officers Course). He served in Tehran, Iran from
1978 to 1979 and worked for U.S.B.I., before retirement in 1992. Survivors
include one son, John Joseph Koisch Jr., and his wife, Elizabeth M., of
Huntsville; a sister, Mrs. John McGuinness of New City; two brothers,
Major General Frank Koisch of San Antonio, Texas and Anthony "Jerry"
Koisch of Newburgh; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by
his parents; a brother, Andrew Koisch; and four sisters, Josephine Rock,
Margaret Hayden, Christine Butwell and Mary DeSanctis. A memorial service

Caroline was a retired typist at the United States Military Academy at
West Point. She was also a parishioner of St. Francis of Assisi Church

Robert Stephen - (Car accident 7/12/56) Mr. Kubina was born
in New Windsor on June 29, 1933, son of Stephen and Rose Sloboda
Kubina. He attended New Windsor School and was graduated from
Newburgh Free Academy in 1951. Employed by the Western Electric
Company as an installer. He was a member of St. Patrick's Church
and Black Rock Fish and Game Club, Bethlehem Fish and Game Club. A
veteran of the Korean War, he was in the Headquarters Battalion, field
Artillery and was a member of the Army Reserve, New York Military
District. He is survived by his parents and several aunts and
uncles. Funeral services will be held Monday morning at 9 a.m. at the
Doulin-Zillig Funeral Home 318 North Montgomery St. and at 10 a.m. at
St. Joseph's Church, New Windsor, where a solemn high Mass of requiem
will be offered, for the repose of the soul, to which friends and

Lawlor, Janet Esther Timke Schmidt of Montgomery, NY, a lifetime
resident of the area passed away on Saturday July 4, 2009, in Newburgh.
She was 75. The daughter of the late Augustus and Esther Devereaux
Lawlor, she was born August 14, 1933 in Newburgh. She was a member of
St. Francis Church in Newburgh and was in the City of Newburgh Fast
Pitch Softball Hall of Fame. Janet was a devoted wife, mother,
grandmother, and was a very loving and caring woman who touched deeply
the lives of those who knew her. In her early years she was a gifted
athlete and was voted Best Female Athlete in her senior year at Newburgh
Free Academy. She enjoyed playing softball and had a .300 batting
average and was the "Homerun Queen" of the league. She was inducted into
the City of Newburgh Fast Pitch Softball Hall of Fame along with her
sisters, Beatrice and Shirley. She was a devoted Yankee fan and loved
animals. She once named a litter of thirteen kittens after her favorite
Yankee players. Janet found special joy in spending time with her
grandchildren. She enjoyed being around them and watching them play and
grow through the stages of their lives. She asked for so little and yet
gave so much to those around her. She will be greatly missed by her
family and friends. She was the widow of George H. Timke, III. Survivors
include her husband, John J.(HAP) Schmidt at home; son, Timothy M. Timke

Lease, Wighlielmina "Billie" Gardner of the Town Newburgh, a retired
librarian and teacher in the Cornwall School District, passed away on
Monday, January 9, 2006 at St. Luke's Cornwall Hospital, Newburgh. She
was 72. Daughter of the late William and Angela Lease, she was born on
December 8, 1933 in Newburgh. She was the widow of Frank D. Gardner.
Billie was a parishioner of Our Lady of the Lake Chapel, Newburgh. She
was a 1951 graduate of Newburgh Free Academy. She received a Bachelor's
Degree from Lincoln Memorial University in Tennessee, and a Master's
Degree from Albany State University. After graduating from college, she
returned to Orange County as an elementary school librarian in the
Valley Central school District. She then began teaching library skills
in the Cornwall School District, where she retired in 1988.She is
survived by her nephew, Rick DeGeorge and his wife Roseann of Newburgh;
her grandnephew, Matthew DeGeorge and grandniece Daniella DeGeorge, both
of Newburgh; and her mother-in-law, Frances Sylvester of Newburgh. In
addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her sisters, Lena Lease
and Jean DeGeorge; and her brother Matthew Lease. Visitation will be

Lent, Sebring P. (Buddy) of Newburgh entered into rest on Saturday March
30, 2013 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Newburgh. He was 79 years old. The
son of the late Sebring Round and Edythe (Palmer) Lent, Buddy was born
on July 25, 1933 in Newburgh. He married Gloria Marro of Newburgh on
September 27, 1953. Buddy was a graduate of N.F.A. in 1951. He retired
from IBM in 1993 after 28 years of service. He was a member of Union
Presbyterian Church in Balmville. Buddy was a member of the Dan Leghorn
Fire Department. He was an avid collector of fireman patches. He played
drums in The Newburgh Combination Corp, The Criterions Drum and Bugle
Corp, and The Florida Legion Marching Band in Florida, NY. He had a
great love for cats. If you were ever on Maple Street in Newburgh, you
could find Buddy helping people with their garbage cans or just in his
yard trimming his grass. Buddy is survived by his loving wife of 59
years Gloria at home; his daughters: Debra Sheehan and her husband Joe

MacDonald,
Gerald E. "Og" a lifelong Beacon resident, died Monday, January 4, 2010,
at Vassar Brothers Medical Center, Poughkeepsie. He was 83. Born in
Beacon on June 26, 1926, he was the son of Gerald E. and Marion C.
Conway MacDonald. On October 12, 1957 at St. Patrick's Church, Newburgh,
he married the former Margery V. Smith. Mrs. MacDonald preceded him in
death on April 3, 1987. Mr. MacDonald was a U.S. Navy veteran, who
enlisted on July 5, 1944 completing training in Bainbridge, MD,
Gulfport, MS, and San Francisco, CA. He served aboard the USS YMS 118,
USS Fentress, and the USS Proserpine, ultimately serving in the
Philippines. He rose to the rank of Motor Machinist Mate 3rd. Class. His
service awards included the American Theater Medal, Asiatic-Pacific
Medal, Philippine Liberation Ribbon, and Victory Medal. He survived a
bout with TB for just over a year at that time in VAMC, Castle Point.
Upon his return from the service, he graduated from Newburgh Free
Academy on June 27, 1951 and also graduated from the former Krissler
Business Institute, Poughkeepsie. He was employed by IBM for 32 years in
the Kingston, Fishkill, and Poughkeepsie locations. He retired on April
1, 1989 as an Administrative Analyst in the Purchasing Department. He
was also a member of the IBM Quarter Century Club. He was proud Life
Member of the Disabled American Veterans, Local Chapter 144, and the
Benevolent Protective Order of Elks Lodge 1493, Beacon. An avid golfer,
he was a 60-plus year member of the Southern Dutchess Country Club,
Beacon and also a member of the former IBM Country Club, Poughkeepsie.
Mr. MacDonald is survived by a daughter, Susan E. MacDonald, Beacon; a
brother, former Dutchess County attorney, Ian G. MacDonald, Beacon;

Co-Owner of Bill Ferris Inc., Campbell Hall, NY, and later retired from
the Bank of New York; a former Elder and Deacon at the First
Presbyterian Church of Hamptonburgh and former member of the Ladies
Christian Guild. She is survived by her husband William D. Ferris at
home; daughter, Patricia Fibel and husband, Bob of Campbell Hall, NY;
son, Courtney E. Ferris and wife, Denise of Myrtle Beach, SC; six
grandchildren, Duane Fibel and wife, Jennifer, Andrea Ferris, Adrianne

Maharay, William
E. 81, of Myrtle Beach died on September 12, 2012 at Grand Strand
General Hospital, of complications resulting from surgery. He was a
beloved father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle and
friend. Bill, as all knew him, was born in Newburgh, NY on August 19,
1931. After graduating from Newburgh Free Academy in 1951, he enlisted
in the United States Army and served in Korea. Bill came home a
decorated veteran, and immediately returned to work for "Doc" Baxter at
Baxter's Pharmacy where he worked while attending NFA. Some of his
friends may also remember William Maharay Used Cars which he operated
with his father at Maharay's Garage on North Plank Road. In later years
Bill worked as a route supervisor for A&N Vending in Beacon, and
prior to retiring to Myrtle Beach to relax and be closer to his sister,
Ethel and brother, Walt, he owned and operated the popular Golden Rail
Tavern on Old North Plank Road. Bill is survived by his daughter, Susan
Altopiedi of Tampa; two granddaughters, Kimberly Dawn Lindsey and
Rebecca Sarah Johnson; four great-grandchildren: Amber Taylor Johnson,
Ryan Anthony Johnson, Emilee Sierra Johnson and Daniel Joseph Lindsey;
his sister, Ethel Nuccitelli of Myrtle Beach; his brother, Walter
Maharay of North Myrtle Beach, and numerous cousins in the Newburgh
area. Bill will always be remembered for his caring personality,
gracious smile and quick wit. His sister, Ethel, often said that once he
greeted you, you were never again a stranger, but forever his friend.
His spirit and indomitable nature can be captured in this anonymous
quote, "When life gives you a hundred reasons to cry, show life that you
have a thousand reasons to smile." To respect Bill's last wishes, no

25, 1934 the daughter to the late Peter and Rose (Magliato) Maniscalco.
Both Rosalie and her husband were longtime residents of the Newburgh
area. She was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker. She is survived by
her loving husband of 56 years, Robert M. Schoonmaker; Daughters, Laura

Andrew W. Sr. a lifelong resident of Newburgh, entered
into rest on Monday, November 8, 2010 at Castle Point Veterans Hospital.
He was 77. Fondly known as Snookey to family and friends, Andrew was
born on July 16, 1933 in Newburgh and proudly served in the U.S. Army's
Second Armored Division, "Hell on Wheels", during the Korean War. He
married Geraldine Masten on February 1, 1953 in Sacred Heart Church,
Newburgh; who survives at home. Andrew was a family man whose life was
dedicated to his wife and children. Andrew was a butcher for 30 years at
West Point and later worked with the Maintenance Department for the
Newburgh Enlarged City School District for ten years. He was also a part
time Police Officer for the Town of Cornwall and Security Officer for
St. Francis Church, Newburgh. Our family wishes to extend a very sincere
thank you to everyone involved in Andrew's medical care over the past 5
years, who are proof that there are angels among us. We especially thank
the nurses and staff on B-2 at Castle Point VA Hospital. In addition to
his loving wife of 57 years, Geraldine, he is survived by his son,
Andrew Masten, Jr. of Cornwall; daughter, Tony Lindgren and her husband,

Jacqueline (Jackie) Frances Sutherland, died peacefully, with her family
at her side, February 4, 2005, after a courageous six year battle with
cancer. The daughter of the late John Joseph McDermott and the late
Christina Smith McDermott, Jackie was born and raised in Newburgh, N.Y. on
December 19, 1933. In 1955, she graduated from Keuka College in Keuka
Park, N.Y., where she met her future husband, Kenneth Sutherland. They
married in 1957 in Buffalo, N.Y. In 1972, the family moved to Walnut
Creek, Calif., where Jackie lived out her life. Jackie's primary focus was
always her family and she believed that being a wife and mother were her
most important roles. She was devoted to her children and supported and
encouraged them during their various activities, taking great pleasure in
celebrating all six of their college graduations. She treasured being a
grandmother and enthusiastically embraced her grandchildren with the same
love and devotion. In June of 2004, Jackie and Ken fulfilled a lifelong
dream by traveling to her mother's birthplace, Aberdeen, Scotland. She is
survived by her beloved husband, Kenneth Sutherland, Sr., and loving
children: Carey Schiller and her husband, Fletcher, Kendall Abramson and
her husband, Mark, Gail Markham and her husband, William, Jill Gebhardt
and her husband, Philip, Kenneth, Jr. "Chip" and his wife, Suzi Walsh, and
John Sutherland; her beloved grandchildren: Jack and Kelly Markham,
Madeline Abramson, and Kara, Blake and Colin Gebhardt. Jackie is also
survived by her three brothers: John J. McDermott III and his wife, Betty

old. The son of Antonio Mele and Nicolena Bartolini Mele, Louis was born
on May 15, 1933 in Newburgh NY. Louis was a Sales Representative for
R.W. Henry in Newburgh, NY. He honorably and proudly served his country
as a member of the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War. He was a
former member of Sacred Heart Church in Newburgh and a member of
American Legion Post 353, Cornwall, NY. A family statement reads: "The
family would like to express sincere thanks to the Staff of Castle Point
Veterans Administration Hospital for their care provided over the last
several months of his life." Louis is survived by his wife, Hazel

James "Jimmy" was given his angel wings 11-27-11 at the age of 79. He
passed away in hospice care in Palm Coast, Florida, where he resided.
Jimmy was born on 10-5-32 in Newburgh. He often talked about his fond
memories of Newburgh, and always considered it "home." After graduating
from Newburgh Free Academy in 1951, Jimmy served over 20 years in the
United States Navy retiring as a Chief Warrant Officer III. He then
retired from a second career he enjoyed with Kemper Insurance. Jimmy
loved Memphis State basketball, and was an avid reader. He also enjoyed
living in Florida during his retirement years, and traveling. Jimmy is
survived by his current wife Sandra, children and several grandchildren.
He shared his children with his previous wife JoAnn who also resided in
Newburgh for several years. His children are Teresa Sheppard of Harker
Heights, Texas, Gary Melton of Pekin, Illinois, Sherry McGee of Belton,
Texas, and his step son whom he raised and loved dearly, Ron Davis of
Charlotte, NC. Jimmy was a kind, gentle man who loved giving to others,
and is greatly missed.
Mestman, Louis of LaMesa, California, a retired salesman, and former
longtime resident of Newburgh, NY died Thursday, April 11, 1996 at
Grossmount Hospital, La Mesa. He was 63. The son of the late
Abraham and Rose Lewis Mestman, he was born Feb. 27, 1933 in
Newburgh. Survivors include one son, Seth Mestman of LaMesa; one
daughter Dawn Lim of North Carolina; two brothers, Dr. Carl Mestman of
Newburgh and Philip Mestman of Poughkeepsie, NY and several nieces and
nephews. Services were previously held by the Featheringill
Mortuary and the Jewish Fellowship Center, both of San Diego,

Mitsushima , Carole Ann Embler "Mitzi" of Newburgh, a nurse's aide
who worked privately and at St. Luke's Hospital, Newburgh, and a
lifelong resident of the area, died Sunday, Sept. 28, 1995 at St. Luke's
Hospital. She was 63. The daughter of Alexander Mitsushima and the
late Margaret Sager Mitsushima whe was born Nov. 15, 1933 in
Newburgh. Survivors include her father of Newburgh, her husband,
Gordon Embler of Newburgh; one son Paul G. Embler of Newburgh, two
daughters, Joan L. Smith and Jean A. Fry, both of Newburgh; and five
grandchildren.

Morley, Dorothy J. Giammarino, 80, a resident of Wappingers Falls,
entered into rest Friday, March 14, 2014 at St. Francis Hospital in
Poughkeepsie. Daughter of the late Albert Bruce and Mary Brennan Morley,
She was born on May 17, 1933 in the Town of Newburgh. She was educated
in the Newburgh School District and graduated from NFA in 1951; where
she was awarded a scholarship for nursing. She went on to graduate from
Vassar Brothers Hospital School of Nursing in 1954. Dorothy worked at
Vassar Brothers Hospital for the next forty years, retiring in 1995. She
was a member of the Vassar Brothers Hospital School of Nursing Alumnae
Association. She married the love of her life, Ralph J. Giammarino on
January 22, 1955 at St. Mary's Church in Poughkeepsie. Mr. Giammarino
survives at home in Wappingers Falls. Dorothy had many interests and
hobbies including gardening, knitting and crocheting, stained glass and
reading true crime novels. She had a deep love of animals, especially
her cat, Morley. She enjoyed songbirds, especially the cardinal.
Together with her husband, they cared for homing pigeons. A favorite
pigeon was Speedy who traveled 500 miles in 12 hours. She had a love to
get away on vacation, especially to Long Beach Island in New Jersey and
treasured a trip to Aruba shared with her husband. Above all, she will
be remembered for her love of friends and family. She was very family
oriented always putting her family first. In addition to her husband of
59 years, Ralph J. Giammarino, she is survived by her daughters, Laura
Giammarino of Wappingers Falls and Lynda O'Donoghue and her husband,
Michael of Taylor, Texas; her grandchildren, Kelly Patterson, Ryan
O'Donoghue, Carey O'Donoghue, Chelsey Giammarino and Kaitlyn Giammarino;
her great-grandchildren, Bailey, Isabella, Charlotte and Danielle
Patterson, and Evelyn Hazelwood; as well as several nieces and nephews.

The daughter of the late Gus Moustakis and Efthemia Courtsunis, she was
born September 20, 1933 in Saugerties. She married William Komondorea on
January 31, 1954 at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church. She was a member
of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church and St. Nicholas Ladies Society.
She graduated from NFA in 1951. Survivors include her husband, William
Komondorea, at home; her children, Stacey and her husband, Bill Websdell
of Newburgh, Dean Komondorea of Newburgh, and Basil and his wife,
Audiene Komondorea of New Windsor; siblings, Chris Moustakis of New

into rest unexpectedly on Monday, January 5, 2009 at St. Luke's Cornwall
Hospital, Newburgh Campus. She was the daughter of the late Benedict and
Margaret Bardin Munger. Joan was a homemaker who cared for her children,
Charlene Neiss and Kevin Neiss and his wife, Christine, who survive her.
Joan is also survived by her grandchildren: Lisa, William and Stephanie

Donald A. 69, the husband of Barbara (Walsh) Nerz, died Thursday, February
6, 2003 at Hartford, CT. Hospital. Born in Newburgh, NY, son of the
late Clement and Norma (McGarry) Nerz, he had made his home in West
Hartford for 38 years moving to Hartford three years ago. Mr. Nerz
received a basketball scholarship to the University of Miami. He
transferred and graduated from Manhattan College (1956) where he was a
member of the golf team that enjoyed playing home matches at Winged Foot
CC. He served in the U.S. Army, Special Services, Ft. Polk,
Louisiana 1956 to 1958. Don worked for 18 years, as controller,
office manager, and corporate secretary for Savin Brothers, Inc. He
later co-founded the Linc Corporation. Besides his wife Barbara he
is survived by his children; David Nerz and his wife Megan of Raleigh, NC,
Paul Nerz and his wife Laura of West Hartford, Allison Whiston and her
husband Shawn of Danielson, James Nerz of Hartford, Caroline Gillingham
and her husband Tim of Franklin, MA, and Matthew Nerz and his wife Candace
of San Diego, CA. His grandchildren; Patrick and Rebecca in Raleigh,
Jacqueline in West Hartford, Ryan, Colin and Alexander in Danielson, James
and Thomas in Franklin, MA and Veronica in San Diego also survive

say goodbye to a beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, Rudolph
Paul Paolini, of Paradise, who had just passed his eighty-first birthday,

Poughkeepsie, New York , and to his architectural career. This included a
partnership during which he developed an acoustical system for a local
high school. He also designed the President’s home at the Culinary
Institute of America in Hyde Park, and buildings on the Dutchess Community
College campus. He would later join the teaching staff at the same
institute. He met his wife to be a the Arthur Murray Dance Studio, in
Poughkeepsie, New York, and on January 16, 1960, he would marry Alison
Knox, in the historic St. Denis Church, in Sylvan Lake, New York. Rudy and
his wife bought the Carriage House in Hyde Park, New York, that had once
belonged to Ellen Roosevelt, Republican cousin to Franklin Delaware
Roosevelt. It was redesigned and became Rudy and wife Alison’s home for
the next fifteen years along with their two daughters. Later he would take
a job in Saudi Arabia which would lead him and his family to California.
In California he would take a position with a large international company,
Wagner, Hohns, and Inglis, where he rose to Vice President before
retiring. He moved from Canoga Park, California, to Paradise, after
retiring. He was a member of the Son’s of Italy, Men’s Garden Club, and
the Opera Guild. Rudy is survived by his wife Alison, of Paradise,
daughters Christina Anderson, of Escondido, and Gina Paolini, of Canoga
Park, California, grandchildren James Anderson, of Miami, Florida, Tori
Anderson, of Escondido, and Jordon Anderson of Davis, California. Also two
brothers, Frank Paolini, of Middleburg, Vermont, and Paul Paolini, of San
Diego, California. A Celebration of Life service is planned for Monday,
November 3, 2014, at 11:00 A.M. at the Paradise Chapel Of The Pines
Funeral Home, in Paradise. A reception will follow the service, at the
funeral home, lower level.



Powles, Barbara J. Slack "Bobbie" 54 of Fletcher Drive, Town of
Newburgh, died September 14, 1986 at St. Lukes Hospital, after a long
illness. Born August 22, 1932 in Newburgh, she was the daughter of
Walter and Jennie Surdykowski Powles. A data processor for the AT
& T Corporation, Suffern, she was the wife of James E. Slack and was a
lifelong area resident. She was also a member of the Newburgh
Bowling Association. Survivors include her widower at home; three

M. Slack in Newburgh; two brothers, Walter "Buddy" Powles of Florida and

Edward F. of the Town of Newburgh entered into rest on October 26, 2014 at
Westchester Medical Center. He was 80 years old. He was the son of Frank
and Ethel Johnston Rightmeyer. He was born on January 20, 1934. Ed worked
as a Tech Specialist at Texaco for 39 years. Ed was an avid fly fisherman
who loved to tie his own flies. He loved to play the piano and entertain.
He loved all sports but was especially fond of NASCAR and basketball. He
graduated from NFA in 1951 where he was a star member of the basketball
team who won the DUSO championship. He was an Army veteran of the Korean
War as an instructor in Fort Lee, Virginia. He was a life member of the
Cronomer Valley Fire Department and served as President and Fire
Commissioner. He is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Shirley
Gasking Rightmeyer; his loving children: Edward P. Rightmeyer and his
wife, Heidi of New Windsor, Betsy Flanigan and her husband, Bren of
Carthage, MO and Tim Ingram and his wife, Tricia of the Town of Newburgh;
grandchildren: Kyle and Travis Ingram, Allie and Shane Rightmeyer, Devin
and Kelly Flanigan, Lindsey Lattimore and Danielle Sullivan;
great-granddaughter, Peyton Ingram; sister-in-law, Agnes Koerber;

Romano, Joseph J. of Route 32 New Windsor, the owner of the former
Stevens and Blume Sporting Goods, Newburgh and lifelong resident of the
area, died Wednesday Oct. 30, 1991 at home. He was 58. The
son of the late Vincenzo and Lena Romano, he was born March 3,1933 in
Newburgh. He was a member of the Osiris Country Club, Walden; a
former member of the Newburgh Country Club; an avid area bowler in
Newburgh, he was affiliated with the Town of Newburgh Little League; and
he was the head coach of the Newburgh Nuclears. Survivors include
his wife, Irene Williams Romano, of Newburgh; three sons, James Romano
and Richard Romano both of Newburgh and Joseph Romano of Japan; three
daughters, Diane Farkas of Newburgh, Donna Yannone of New Windsor and
Doreen Ramos of Plattekill; one brother James Romano of Seattle, Wash.;

Robert "Bob" M. age 79 of Berkley Lane in Horseheads and formerly a
longtime resident of Fishkill and Newburgh, NY passed away on Friday,
March 29, 2013. Bob was born February 26, 1934, the son of the late Melvin
and Laura (Brought) Schoonmaker. He was predeceased by his loving wife,
Rosalie M. (Maniscalco) Schoonmaker of 56 years on June 9, 2009. He is

Smith, Edward J. Cpl., - Died on Dec. 18, 1956. Parents of Edward
J. Smith a an intelligence corporal on duty in Korea were in possession
of a telegram today notifying them of the death of their son last
week. The parents Mr. and Mrs. Stephen M. Smith 316 South St.
Newburgh, received notice Saturday that the corporal who was graduated
from NFA in 1951, had been found dead in his bunk. He was
stationed with the Headquarters Company, 24th Infantry Division.
Corporal Smith, an honor student at NFA, had been stationed at the
Pentagon in Washington prior to his assignment overseas. He was
born April 4, 1933 in the Town of Shawangunk. In addition to his
parents, Stephen M. and Mary Taylor Smith he is survived by six sisters
and four brothers. The brothers are James of Washingtonville;
Stephen and Alfred of Newburgh and Robert of the U.S. Army Air
Corps. Sisters are Niva, at home and Elizabeth, wife of Sylvan
Steinhilder; Nellie, wife of Russel Acherman, Harriet, wife of George

Soukup, Frances Stuhmer, of Town of Montgomery, NY, a retired Purchasing
Agent for Newburgh Schools, and a lifetime resident of the area, died
Monday, August 5, 2013, in Middletown. She was 79. The daughter of the
late Charles and Frances Talasco Soukup, she was born January 22, 1934
in Middle Hope, NY. Her work for the Newburgh School system spanned more
than 40 years. She began her career as a stenographer working out of the
Gidney Ave. School and ended her career as purchasing agent working out
of the Board office on Grand Street. She was a member and past president
of the Tri-County Association of Educational Secretaries. She had a love
of antiques and local history and was a past member of the Historical
Society of Newburgh Bay and the Highlands and the International Majolica
Society. She was an avid collector of antique postcards and books from
the local area. In addition, she was a past member of the Orange County
Antique Auto Club Inc. She was the widow of George Stuhmer. She shared
his love of travel, flying, and introduced him to her love of antiques
and local history. Survivors include her daughter, Lyn Stuhmer of High
Bridge, along with several nieces and nephews, brother-in-law and
sisters-in-law. She was predeceased by brothers: Charles and Thomas and

who loved to watch Nascar races and proudly served his country in the
United States Army during the Korean War, where he received a National

Sutton on October 9, 1933. On October 3, 1954, she married William R. Webb

Home in Ossining, NY and then Sky view Rehab and Health Center before her
retirement. Marion was an avid reader and loved cooking, crocheting and
her kids, the cats, Emmylou, Timmy and Juliet. She was devoted to her
grandchildren who were her pride and joy. Marion is survived by her sons,

adoring grandchildren Rob and Kirsten Webb. She was predeceased by her

longtime resident of Wallkill, N.Y., passes away May 18, 2006 at Compass
Hospital in San Antonio, with her loving family at her side. She
was born in Newburgh, N.Y. on January 31, 1934 to the late Henry Wolfe
Tompkins and Bertha Mae Bedell Tompkins. She was a graduate of NFA
High School, a graduate LPN of Mount St. Mary's School of Practical
Nursing; and a graduate RN of Ulster County Community College. She was a
charter member of the Wallkill Ambulance Corps and a member of The
Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She was married to

Vernol, Frank "Mizzy" F. Jr. a longtime resident of the area and a
retired Technician for New York Telephone Company, died Tuesday,
February 6, 2007 in Hollywood, Fla. He was 74. The son of the late Frank
and Lucille Purtell Vernol, he was born April 27, 1932 in Newburgh, N.Y.
He was a Navy Veteran during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the
Newburgh VFW, Newburgh Elks Lodge, Order of Hibernians, and the

Italian Center. He served in the Marine Corps in Korea, receiving

great, loving, supportive mom and grandma. She loved the Yankees, going to

Arthur Sr. "Artie" departed this Life to be with his Lord on April 3,
2006. He was born eighth of nine children on Sept. 2, 1933 in Roseton,
N.Y. His parents, Junius and Clydia Williams relocated to Newburgh, N.Y.
where Artie was educated in the public school system. In 1951, Artie
graduated from the Newburgh Free Academy (NFA) and joined the US Army that
same year. He was assigned to the Army Airborne Division and honorably
discharged in 1954. On Dec. 29, 1956, he was united in holy matrimony to
the former Vernola Gaynell Sharpe and they were blessed with seven
children. In June 1956, after receiving God's call to preach the Gospel,
Artie, now Rev. Williams, was ordained at Ebenezer Baptist Church and
faithfully served the church until he and his family relocated to
Harrisburg, Pa. Before leaving Newburgh in 1973, he received the Newburgh
NAACP Award in recognition of his past achievements and service to the
Newburgh Community. In 1962, Artie received his Bachelor Degree in
theology from the Manhattan Bible Institute of Manhattan, N.Y. He
continued his religious education throughout his life. From 1956 until
1966, Artie worked for State of Newburgh as a furniture upholsterer. In
1966, he joined the ranks of IBM in the New York and he later relocated
with the company to Pennsylvania and Maryland. In 1933, after 27 years of
dedicated service, Artie retired from IBM. Artie's retirement was anything
but inactive. He joined and was a presiding officer of a local senior
citizen's bowling league, enjoyed bicycle riding, received his locksmith's
license, improved his computer skills, learned to play the piano,
continued his traditional and religious education, remained in good
standing of the Washington, D.C. Baptist Convention and still enjoyed his
many do-it-yourself projects. Rev. Williams devoted his last years to the
Prayer and Praise Family of Washington, D.C. His parents, one sister,
Katie and seven brothers, Elmer, Alfred, Maurice, James, J. Otto, Thomas
and Lawrence, all preceded him to the Lord. Artie leaves to cherish his
memory, his wife of 49 years, Vernola Sharpe Williams; three sons,
Quintell Sharpe (JoAnn) of Harrisburg, Pa., Jahn Williams Jr. (Annett) of
Fremont, Calif., and Reginald Williams (Maya) of Bowie, Md.; four
daughters, Shelly Sharpe Arlington (Ronald) of Hyattesville, Md., Satina
Williams of Baltimore, Md., Leona Williams of Hyattesville, Md., and
Arlissa Williams Fluellen of Hampton, Va.; five grandsons, Jerome, Justin,
Kenneth, Jarred Arthur and Ian Arthur; five granddaughters, Fallon
Courtney, Madeleine, Tess and Catherine; one great-granddaughter, Kalea
Renee; three foster brothers, David Adam (Lynn) of New York, N.Y., Joseph
Adams of Newburgh and Octavius Graham (Anne Marie) of Middletown; a
brother-in-law Reginald Sharpe of New York, N.Y.; two sisters-in-law Lois
Williams of Silver Springs, Md. and Florence Williams of Yorktown, Va.;
one aunt, Sally Sharpe of Newburgh; and loving nieces, nephews, cousins,
and a host of precious friends. He also leaves to cherish his memory, Rev.
and Mrs. Gregory Trueheart and the Baptist Church Family and Praise
Family. Visitation will be held on Tues. April 11 from 5-7 p.m. at
Ebenezer Baptist Church, 76 First St., Newburgh. Funeral services will
follow at 7 p.m. in the church, with the Rev. George H. Smith officiating.
Interment will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Middlehope. Arrangements are by
Brutus W. Hodge Funeral Home, 13 Chamber St., Newburgh.

Frederic W. III "Fred", of Newburgh, N.Y., former owner of
Yuess Gardens in Newburgh and lifelong area resident, died Saturday,
November 19, 2005 at Arden Hill Hospital in Goshen. He was 72. The son of
the late Frederic W. Wright Jr. and Vera Vogt Wright, he was born October
25, 1933 in Brooklyn. He was a member of Moose Lodge, Mid Hudson Bowling
Assoc. and Grace Untied Methodist Church in Newburgh. Survivors include
three sons, Frederic W. Wright IV of Newburgh, Kyle C. Wright of
Jacksonville, Fla. and Cory J. Wright of Newburgh; two sisters, Barbara
Pelella of Wallkill and Alice Bowman of Liverpool; four grandchildren,
Steele Christopher Wright, Carley Anne Wright, Reagan Alee Wright and
Amanda Eileen Kaskeski; nieces and nephews. There will be no visitation.
Funeral services will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial
contributions may be made to your favorite charity. Funeral arrangements
under direction of White & Venuto Funeral Home, 188 North Plank Rd (Rt
32), Newburgh.
